Hi friends,

So I've been evaluating which 1TB SATA drive to buy. I had it narrowed down to the Samsung F1 HD103UJ given its apparent performance over the others and less platters but then I found out heaps of people are having problems and needing RMA.

So, is the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11? Given more reliability and slightly less performance?

why not the western digital GP?
Saves on electricity and WD has amazing warranty (no proof of purchase, usually 3 or 5 years after manufacturing date).

If you want reliability, RAID1 is the way to go.

As performance seems to be an issue, I'd so go barracuda.
Is this hdd going to be used as the OS drive and/or game drive? Is it for just plain storage?

The WD Caviar GP is an excellent storage drive - it runs very cool and very quietly, but isn't all that fast if you need uber load times and boot times.

The Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ would be the performance king [and it's really quiet too...], but as you said a lot of people are getting ECC errors on them... next up performance-wise would probably be the Barracuda 7200.11, which is loud and vibrates like hell. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have as many problems as the F1.

Hitachi's 7K1000 is still a good choice, even though it's getting old compared to the others - it's about middle-of-the-road performance-wise.
