Which 19" LCD?

I'm looking to finally 'add' a LCD to my collection. Currently running a 19" Samsung CRT that I'm actually quite happy with.

Although I'd like to get a LCD finally. I mainly use my system(s) for gaming. From Everquest, CS:S, DoD:S, BF2, etc...

I've been reading up on the 1907FP (Dell) and see a few 'iffy' comments about it and I'm not completely sold on it. The price is great..

I have $~400 to spend. I want something great for gaming, color / blacks / greys must be ON.

Is there something else I can look into? Samsungs??

I'd possibly be willing to go to a 20" if price is within the 400$ range if its going to be something drastically superior.

Ty for any input!

You might want to look into the Viewsonic VX2025WM. ~$340 after shipping.

You would get better responses in the Video forum.

Im moving to another apartment soon and need to unload a bunch of excess. In the next week or so I will be posting a massive FS list, among them are 2 19" Samsung LCDs. One is model 910T and the other is a 940Be. PM if interested or wait until I post all the stuff in FS.

NEC 90GX2.

I don't care what reviews say.

That LCD looks better (sharper, clearer, way better contrast) than any other 19" LCD i have ever seen, & i've seen many side by side since i sell 'em.

I just bought the Viewsonic VA1912wb for $199.00 after a $50.00 rebate. I must say that I am really impressed. Sharp clear text and games look great. HL2 at the preferred resolution for this monitor is mind blowing. Also, my son plays WOW and he couldn't stop playing last night....went to bed at 4:30AM. It is a widescreen to boot. I watched the DVD movie Shaolin Soccer on it and it filled up the screen and looked great. :D

I have the vx922 and am extremely happy with it. It's bright, clear, and I haven't noticed any ghosting.

I'm going to be the first person to say it really depends on you. I use a rather old now Samsung 910T, which is bright and has great contrast, but is a 25ms panel. Is there ghosting? Yes Does it bother me? Not at all.

940Be is an excellent monitor OP. I own the 940b myself which only lacks a more ergonomic stand to the Be. See what Oyeve sells for.

Just for more info. My eyes can distinguish very clearly between anything less than 85hz on a crt...i can even see some flickering type effect on my 17" Dells at work at 70hz . . weather its refresh rate or other things i dunno (may be noise due to analog input/conversion...)

I appreciate all the input tho! ATM, sorta leaning towards vx922... as it sounds like to 'fully' utilize the wide screens or any 20+ lcds, you have to run at their native resolutions...and gaming at 16x12 + just is not gunna run smooth on my somewhat mid range rig.

i think you have you rigs potential confused. Your rig is undoubtedly a high-end rig, actually very close to ultra-high end, with that opty and x1800xt...whewww. You can easily game at 1600x1200+ actually now that i see it, your limiting yourself at wanting a 19" lcd. Of course you can pile on super AA and AF and all the goodies, but really i would aim for a 20'+, especially with your $400 budget.

My Viewsonic 1912wb widescreen allows me to set a refresh of 60,75,or 85 at the native 1440 x 900 resolution. It is recommended to use 60 refresh. Is there a reason I shouldn't set 75 or 85. I don't understand the refresh issue on an LCD. I am thinking about refresh on CRT's. Any input would be helpful.

My rig runs games fine on my widescreen at its native resolution of 1680x1050.

I don't know who told you your rig is mid-range, you've got plenty of power there to run nearly every new game at 1600x1200 with all the eye candy turned up.

Check out the Viewsonic VX2025M, it's the business and very much in your price range.

go to howstuffworks.com and read up on lcd/crt
the refresh rates are not comparable. 1hz on lcd would be flicker free:p but 1fps.
i forget exactly why but some lcds actually degrade in performance if you try ppushing the refresh rate up, its a bug or something. not that it helps anyways since one is limited by pixel response not refresh.
