I'm looking to get a 19" LCD monitor, and I am wondering if Samsung is a good name to go with. I want so spend between 500 and 600. I don't game too often at all but if it doesn't ghost that is all the better. I mainly want it because I need a new monitor, my 17" crt round display is gettin very old, its actually 5 years old. I will be usin my monitor for 3d graphic programs such as Maya, and just normal internet stuff. Which 19 should I go with?

Be aware that a 17 inch lcd may do you fine. A 19 inch crt has it's edges covered by the bezel, resulting in a viewing area of 18 inches or less. A 17 Inch lcd will give you the full 17 inches. I went from a 19incrt to a 17 in lcd, and with the increased clarity, there is no apparent decrease in size. I do recommend Samsung too.

I'd really suggest saving a tad more and going for the dell 2001fp. It's been on sale for around $750 and is a bargain considering it's 20" @ 1600x1200.

And 16ms response time makes it just about the best gaming lcd on the market (samsung does have a 12ms 17", but that extra 3" is sooo worth it)

Okay you guys are REALLY making me want to get that 20" Dell, and I'm pretty sure I am going to get one now :)

However, any idea when it will drop down to the $799 price from the $999 price? I see everyone saying how they drop often. Also, my GF was talkin to me about finding a site that lets me pay montly on it (cause she knew i wanted the 19" one), and when I also think that Dell will let me pay monthly around $30 for the monitor, I think i might just do that.

However, I still want to wait until it drops down to around $800. Any ideas when this might happen in a sale?

I am gonna go ahead and say "careful" on your decision to get a 2001FP. I got one a few weeks back and returned it. Not because of dead pixels (It had none). Consider these:

1. Will you be comfortable with 1600x1200? The text is quite small at that resolution. I for one actually like 1280x1024 better. Also playing 3D FPS games at 16x12 is too slow.
2. 2001FP's video playback and FPS gaming performance is not great. (see tomshardware review)
3. I personally find it too bright if I want acceptable contrast
4. The "screening door effect"

As to 19", Samsung's 193P is the best 19" on the market right now.

Cool thanks for the reply. I am really leaning torwards the BenQ 19" LCD. It goes for around $550 on newegg. As for the samsung you recommended, it looks great but I really can't afford almost $800 right now, and if i did go for the stretch I think I would go for the Dell one. However I still am going to do more research before my final decision :)

I just pick up a Samsung 192N at Office Depot yesterday for $513 after $30 MIR. After tax, it costed me about $550.

Not top of the line, no digital connection. Very good price for a proven panel, same as used on Samsung 191T/192T models.

i got the sharp LL-191A-B on that frys deal earlier this month. same LG Philips panel as the dell 2001FP minus 1.1inches. analog only. i payed $500+tax and couldnt be happier. Considered some samsungs, but the AT review of this monitor shows NO ghosting in any of the screens, and after owning it for awhile i can attest to that. no dead/stuck pixels. as for the size of the letters 1280*1024 on a 19" is better IMHO than 1600*1200 on a 20.1".
