I've researched monitors like mad, read a lot of old posts, checked out the limited supply at Best Buy, and have finally narrowed down my list to a few. Monitor will be for a variety of apps that any student would use it for, but mostly for gaming. So, color quality/vibrancy and text sharpness are the 2 more important things. I'd also like a monitor that is known for good longevity, because I need it to last well past the standard 3 year warranty. The following prices are from Dell, because they have 20% and free shipping w/ no tax to my state. Let me know what you all think fits my description the best. I have some pros and cons in parantheses. Thanks in advance.

-Dell P991 - $367.20 (don't know much about this one)
-Hitachi CM772 - $327.96 (supposedly great colors for a ShadowMask but how good?, very sharp, good warranty)
-Samsung 900IFT - $326.36 (pretty close to above Hitachi w/ less warranty, but more popular company)
-Samsung 900NF - $339.96 (recommended a lot, but blurry edges would bother me, how bad are they?)
-NEC FP955 - $393.56 (getting spendy, new version of FP950, a great monitor, praised by most, but owned by few it seems, 0.24mm unvariable, pretty good for an AG)
-Cornerstone p1460 - $423.16 (great warranty, great refresh, looks very good, but it is a ShadowMask and quite spendy, and I don't know much about them)
-Sony G420 - $421.56 (seems to be regarded as best 19 inch for a decent price, but quite costly, also I've heard bad things about Sony's quality control)

i have NEC FE950, and its great. Obviously this FP955 is going to be better. NEC monitors seems to be excellent - i have two.

900NF blurry edges??? I never heard of that one.....but mine doesn't have that.....I can honestly say that it all comes down to the right configuration with this monitor since there are so many settings you can adjust in the menu.

Get either the NEC FP955 or the Sony G400. Sony is pretty reliable. NEC is okay.

I own the Dell P991 ($367), it's a clone of the Sony G400 which the Sony G420 replaces. So it's a relative of the Sony G400 which has received nothing rave reviews. Just remember the FD Trinitrons have those two faint damper wires which either you don't notice or they will drive you insane, otherwise it's P E R F E CT or buy the Samsung 900NF ($333). Remember the last day to get the Dell 20% off and free shipping is on 7/2 Monday.
