Hello. I was wondering if any of you people out there have worked with or seen the following 19" monitors:

Samsung 900NF $388
Sony CPD-G420S $459
Sony CPD-G400 $479.06
ViewSonic PF790 $366

Those are all very nice monitors, IMHO. Does one company make a better monitor than the other? Those prices were taken from Techonweb.com. Isn't the G420S suppose to be better and it's cheaper???? Monitors are not my specialty, but I know a good monitor when I see one. I really like the styling, refresh rates, and features that stick out on the CPD-G420S.

I've found that http://www.techonweb.com has very competitive pricing and is rated to be very good in service, returns, pricing, etc.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and have a great day!

EDIT:

I'm pairing one of the above monitors with an Asus V8200 Deluxe (GeForce3), if that makes any difference in terms of quality.

I personally like the G400, but the PF790 and 900NF are JUST as good! :Q

What do you guys think of the Avitron AV-195TF from KDS?

I think that looks like a great monitor, too. It supports 1600x1200@85Hz, doesn't break my wallet, is flat screen, AND I can buy it locally. I like buying it locally because if I run into problems, I can take it back without hassles.

Has anyone here used it?

haven't used the 19" one, but I've used the equivalent 17" flat trinitron KDS, and its really nice. Haven't had any problems with it over the past year. Don't think you could go too wrong with KDS, especially since you're getting it locally

Eww.. just saw the 420, its so ugly, LOL! Anyway I found a great deal on the G400 if your still interested... Just call up staples and ask them for their G400 which costs $530. Then tell them to pricematch it to this: http://store.yahoo.com/multi-com/sonmulg419in.html. Then they'll match it down to $395. After that tell them about the $40 off $200 deal (Code: 80319). That bumps it down to $355 and I heard shipping is around $10, but i dont know if its true. All in all it should be around ~370.. Which isnt bad for a G400 :D

Heh. I don't use refurbished stuff. The monitor in my signature isn't correct. I just wrote one in there because it was a required field. I'm almost done with that box though. :D

I use to own the KDS 17" Flat screen as well and had no problems with it either. I may go that route, only with the 19" version instead.

How much is the 19" version, if its more than $370, then go get the G400.

the kds and the samsung look a bit different due to different tubes (sony and mitsu respectively), this is more of a personal flavor... my pick was the kds, others seem to be very pleased with their samsungs. sonys use the same tube as the kds, i really dont think an average user would need more than 1600x1200@85. hell, i never used the monitor beyond 1280x960 except when i am testing things out. i dont find anything special about viewsonics however, they are the same except a bit overpriced.

The KDS 19" Flat Screen is $380 at my local Best Buy. Now, after tax, that will come out to be about $404.70. :) That's well within my budget, too. Damn, my video card will cost me mre. :( Heheh. Oh well. I shouldn't have to upgrade anytime soon.

Now, compare that $400 to a $500 Sony G420S after shipping at Techonweb, which would you guys choose? I'm thinking I'm sticking with KDS. I also heard their 3 year replacement thing is great too. I'll have to let you all know how it goes.

CPU and RAM this paycheck. Next one is gonna be the Asus V8200 Deluxe. Yup, that's right, folks. GF3 on my little 15" Panasonic E15 monitor. :D I'm saving the monitor for last.

Hahaha. Q3 will fly at 800x600. :)

Ok, 'nuff chattin'. I gotta get to bed.

I'd like to be able to do 1600x1200@85Hz or higher. According to the spec sheet, the PF790 can do it at 69Hz. Anything rated below 72Hz is said to cause annoyance to the eye.

Out of those, I'd say its a toss up between 900NF and G420S, you should probably cross out the other two options. Consider the Iiyama i90A and NEC FP955 as well.

Well, I talked to a few buddies of mine and they all said to get the Sony G420S, so I may just do that. I learned that a monitor is something you can splurge on because it's something that will/should last quite a long while.

Hmm....

Would you guys rather get that KDS 19" or the ViewSonic PF790? I ran 1600x1200 on my uncle's Dell 19" that came with his Dimension 8100 (very nice box, btw) and it was WAY too small. I will probably run 1280x1024@85Hz or better refresh rate if possible.

Let me know what you think.
