Which 16GB Memory for a P8Z68-V board?

System in sig, I know that 8Gb should be enough for gaming but apparently it is not for certain games (and no I have not turned off the pagefile, I upped it from 2Gb to 4GB and some games are still struggling). So I need 16Gb to avoid these silly crashes in games plus futureproofing.

I have 8Gb dual channel HyperX DDR3 @800MHz (9-9-9-28) but can't find another 8Gb of it as it is old. So which would be the best 16GB to get that will definitely work with my board? I have not looked at memory in over 3 years so a bit out of the loop.

Apparently it supports:

DDR3 2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066 MHz

But which is the best option that is compatible with my board?

Asus has a memory list for that board available online, but I don't see any reason a good set of 1.5v 2x8GB RAM from one of the mainstream vendors wouldn't work. I would just get 1600 or, if you can find it on sale, 1866... I wouldn't waste my money on anything faster than that. 9-9-9-28 is a little slow, I would look for 999-24 or better.

I'll just recommend my own G.SKILL kit of DDR3-1866 9-9-9-24 Ripjaws Z 1.5V. I think the last three characters of the model code are GZH.

Your other option is to simply fill the other two slots with an identical 2x4GB kit of what you have. But I'm obviously familiar with the family of motherboards that includes yours, and so if you want to spend the money -- I'll recommend the G.SKILLs.

No reason getting anything faster than 1866. Also -- the GZH kit is likely to auto-configure itself under your BIOS and XMP settings to run at command-rate = 1.

I have been using the VLP Crucial listed below.
With DDR4 around the corner I would go with cheaper DDR3 1600.

Timing 9-9-9-24 1.35 $112.
I am using the above with 2x4 from a G.SKILL kit for a total of 24GB.

Wow. You broke my own taboo. The most I ever did was to mix DDR2-900 and DDR2-1000 G.SKILLs and run them at something like 833 . . .

And -- you been aroun' here for a while. You KNOW what is always recommended (not recommended) when this topic comes up . . .
