Honestly, unless you live in a Amazon taxed state or doing a custom ordered macbook, it makes better sense to get it from Amazon to avoid sales tax. Especially in LA county with our 9.75% tax rate.

Unless you're a Masochist, AVOID all Nvidia 8600m equipped macbooks/laptops. Majority will require a logic board replacement in the future!

yikes. thanks for the heads up. ill just stick with the original plan and buy a refurb directly from apple.

finally got the 13" MBP 2.4GHz, 250GB HDD, 4GB RAM and nvidia 320m for $1019. yay

you're better off getting todays update. the gpu is a lot faster and you get 4GB of ram, larger hd, a lot better battery life, and cpu bumps. either the $1199 or $1499 is fine. however, keep in mind that you can use the education discount if you order online (apple doesnt check if you're a student if you order online), so the prices will effectively be $1099 and $1399, at least for my school it is.
