MSI G4Ti4200-VTD64 or ALBATRON GeForce 4 TI4200P??

It's got to overclock well. They are the same price @ newegg, and overall I like the package and look of the MSI better.

Any opinions performance wise?

Doh, didn't notice the MSI was only 64mb. Too bad, I really like the software bundle on the MSI's.

could always spend a few more bucks and get the albatron turbo(ti4200) and overclock it to speeds over the ti4600.

I got the Albatron ti4200p (non-turbo). The highest I can get this up to tis 310/580 and I don't think it will go much higher. Case cooling is good. I'm going to increase cooling so I might get a little more.

CARD IS AWESOME, however if you got the extra get the Turbo for more overclocking ability.

The Ti4200 Turbo is kind of a misnomer, if you are considering this card, it is more a replacement for the void left by the discontinuation of the ti4400. You can't really compare it to a ti4200 at the increased price, but it does do as well or better than the ti4400's and is almost identical in price.

The card itself is plain awesome to look at, from its sturdy 8-layer blue PCB to its impressive copper thin-finned HSF and aluminum ramsinks. Its a big'un like the ti4400's and ti4600's, so make sure you don't have any memory banks or clips behind your AGP slot or IDE connectors that may get in the way.

Software package is nothing spectacular, Serious Sam and Motocross madness. WinDVD is a nice touch if you don't already have a player, or know someone who doesn't. Supplied drivers and tweaks are crap, better off using whatever tweak utilities you are accustomed to. As for options, this card has DVI, Analog and TV-out, no VIVO if thats a feature you want. Again, all connectors included.

If you are looking to OC, the 64MB ti4200's will get you to the speeds you want; I dont think the 128MB ti4200's will get you there with the 4ns RAM. I'm running it at 310/650, I get artifacts at 310/700, but others are running it that fast. I'm pretty sure they either had mobos that allowed them to up their AGP voltage or they manually modded their cards (BIOS flash?) or boards to draw more power. I've been upgrading a lot and working a lot as well, so I haven't had the time to get everything "tweaked".

Either way, you'll see a nice difference with a new vid card :D

Well, before getting into that whole discussion, how often do you usually upgrade your video card and how long do you expect to keep this GF4??? There's a lenghy thread in this forum on 128MB vs 64MB...its probably only a page or two back.

Plan on keeping it for quite a while, well over a year at least, prolly closer to 1.5 - 2 yrs.

I'd get 128MB in your case, but if you are gonna wait that long to ugprade again, I'd wait for the Radeon 9700 standard to come out (month or so???) and see what that does to pricing. If the 9700 is close to $200 that would be a much better buy IMO as it easily outdistances itself from any nv25 core.

I play Counterstrike and Everquest, both at 1600x1200, AA off. Currently at 16bit depth cuz 32bit slows things way down for me. Here's my setup currently:

AXP 1800+ @ 1700mhz
MSI K7T266 Pro2a
512mb DDR
Gainward GF3 (Vanilla)
Maxtor ATA133 HD

So how about the 128mb MSI Ti4200? I think the bundled games are well worth the $15 that it costs over the Albatron.

Pretty sure I read people having issues with the MSI or Gigabyte cards, but not positive which one. Of all the "regular" Ti4200's, I've heard the best things about the Leadtek and Chaintek cards. The regular Albatron wasn't super popular either, but that might have been because people thought it was the Turbo version.

Well, looked for stuff on the MSI, couldn't find anything bad. And the reviews on newegg are good. Can't beat the bundled games either. So $160 shipped from newegg. Hopefully I won't get a rotten egg!!! :)

i'm personally planning on picking up the Albatron soon. i already have NOLF and Sacrifice (and i don't care about aquanox), so i'm not interested in the game bundle with the MSI, and the Albatron apparently overclocks better than the MSI and has a dvi-vga adaptor just like the MSI. all for ony $145. of course, if ATi hurries up with the 9500, i might change my mind :).

I just installed an MSI 128meg in a friends new puter last night... and the card is fairly impressive if you ask me. For the money, it's a hell of a performer, leaving my 64 meg retail 8500 for dead in UT2003 benchmark (and i haven't even tweeked or OC'ed it yet !), even though his machine has a slower proc than mine... The software bundle was nice, even including slim jewel cases for all the disks, but thats not the reason to buy it.

Hmm, I am also looking at getting a 128mb card, Looking forever at the Albatron No Turbo and MSI, I like them both, seems the Albatron Non Turbo gets to about 295/610 on stock, or you can add some ramsinks and get to about 310/625 stable from what I have seen in several forums...wonder which card has better 2d since i do some work at home occasionally. Both cards look great, at least the MSI would match my KT3 Ultra2 Board :) too bad I have the new 1080AMG case with no side window to adore that racing red color. Anyways, anyone else have any experience with the Albatron cards? Hard to buy into a new company without a track record....

Ok, not as good as I first thought, but still pretty darn good. I'm perfect at 280/560, which I know is prolly just about average. Highest 3Dmark2001 score is 9400 so far. With some ramsinks, I think I could do a little better, but prolly not really worth it. What's a few more FPS?

Anyway, I'm very impressed by the build quality and the package is stellar. I'm very happy with it. :D

I have the Albatron ti4200p non-turbo and it is great. I can't get much of an overclock with it because I'm lacking a good powersupply, but it is a really nice card for the price. I also like the MSI though, but I would go with the Albatron, those games with the MSI sucks anyway(i got 'em w/ my MSI ti200)

Newegg dropped the price of the MSI 128mb card by 4 bucks down to $156, still with free shipping. So it's not just about $20 less than the Albatron Turbo, and only $11 more than the non-Turbo. $10 for those 3 games is no biggie, good games or not, but I can always use something to get me out of EQ for a little while :)

Actually started NOLF last night, but skipped the cut scenes cuz I had AOTC playing on the TV...lol!!! Neat game none the less. And I want to check out Aquanox mainly for the graphics.

What's the turbo got over the non-turbo? Seems you guys like the nonturbo better. Looking for a card myself, not an upgrade, but for a new system.

The more I read the more appealing the 9500Pro is. I guess I jumped into an old thread...It looks like there's only ONE that's actually made by ATI, at least that newegg sells, no?
