We (my company) moved in crews from all over the country to help get things back to normal. Tons of folks from all over the country volunteered to do whatever they could to help out.
 
I bought a Honda EU2000 for camping trips. Costs are exhorbitant but I got a good deal. I was still feeling like I overpaid until our power went out last winter for 36 hours. I powered the freezer and center entertainment console (63 in plasma, dish box, ps3 etc) the whole time and basically paid for itself right there.
 
glad you dodged the bullet, as did i. was out of power for 48 hours but had a generator for most of the time. weather has still been looking grim since then.
