Where's your camera made in?

When I bought my Canon S5 it was made in Japan. My friend bought a S5 later and it was made in China. Anyway I thought a $1300 camera like a new D90 would be made in Japan. I'm a little disappointed to find out that both body and lens are made in Thailand.

Canon S10 - Japan
Canon SD400 - Japan
Canon S5 IS - Japan
Nikon D90 - Thailand

A700 - Japan
A100 - Malaysia
F100fd - China
Olympus Infinity Zoom 210 (film) - Hong Kong
Yashica GSN - Hong Kong
Maxxum 7 (film) - Malaysia

I don't worry, just a bit disappointed coz I thought at least the first batch would be made in Japan.
kind of like ppl would prefer a Toyota that's made in Japan over one that's made in Mexico.

My D70 is also made in Thailand. No matter where the part was made, the machinery used and skill level of the workers is consistent.

Let's check...

D70s - Thailand
D70 - Thailand
D40 - Thailand
XT - Japan
XTi - Japan

What does that prove? That Nikon has factories in Thailand, and Canon has factories in Japan.

Does country of origin affect quality? Nope. The origin of the engineering affects quality.

Japanese cameras are built in Thailand. German cars are built in South Carolina. American computers are built in China. It's all good.

the only time i care is if the standards in the factory differ. if it is, the info spread on the net. otherwise it doesn't matter

Heh, my A200 is made in Japan, the kit lens it came with is made in China, and the Sony strap for the camera is made in Thailand. 🙂
