Where's the love for Painkiller?

Is Painkiller:Battle out of Hell still coming out tomorrow?
I'm stoked about it. I enjoyed Painkiller better than Doom3 and HL2 put together.

Now I KNOW you've really been poppin handfulls of pills! HL2 is sooooooo much better than Painkiller it makes me think you just might be retarded.

I disagree. HL2 is a different game. Painkiller was nonstop run around and shoot 100's of guys old school style. I really enjoyed the first painkiller game

How so? They are both single-player (at least the mode we're talking about) first-person shooters involving 'save the day" linear storylines, tense fights, and exotic weapons. Painkiller is certainly more 'Hexen' than HL2, but c'mon, they're competing products in the same category, and aren't all that different aside from one being mediocre eye-candy and the other being quite possibly the best FPS ever released.

I'm not saying Painkiller is horrible, it amused me for erm, almost a week. It's just that HL2 beats the living crap out of that game! Say what you want about Doom3 (huge let-down IMO) but I just can't see why someone would consider Painkiller better than HL2 (apart from the afore mentioned brain damage/pill habit anyway) 😉

Painkiller is a good SP game but the MP was an absolute joke.

Over-the-top rag doll effects and 'AI' that needed a lot more 'I' really started to erode my opinion on it. That and it was basically Serious Sam with a Goth fetish. Never tried the MP though.

Painkiller is like Serious Sam meeting Night of the living Dead. I've only tried it over at a friend and it seemed pretty fun.

Definately another game than HL-2. PK is ultra fastpaced shooting while HL-2 is more slow and story based.

I liked PK because the action was non-stop. The AI did leave a lot to be desired, but so did the AI in Farcry. There was no thinking involved with PK. No frustration, no puzzles. If I wanted a puzzle, I'd empty 1000 pieces out of a box and go to it.
Doom3 flat out sucked. Run, run, run, run, OOooooo, something jumped out at me, splat. The same boring crap for hours, disguised in different scenes. It reminded me of country music. Nothing ever changed.
HL2 is more like an RPG/FPS than an FPS. Yes, the strategy and puzzles make the game more of a mental challenge. If I want a mental challenge, I'll play chess or argue with the wife.
I like the FPS genre because it's straight forward. UT2004-straight forward. Call of Duty-straight forward.
Looking around for a hidden valve that you have no reason to believe exists is not my idea of fun. Shooting, blowing things up and trying no to survive is what I enjoy.
But hey, I always thought D&D sucked WAY back in the day. My kids are Sims inclined. I'd rather go to the dentist than play that game 😀
I do enjoy hl2. I'm amazed by it. I think it's a huge leap forward, and I'm happy I bought the game.
Take out the puzzles, add a heaping helping of gratuitous violence and explosions and I'd love it forever.

There still should be ton of open box copies at my local eb for about $2 a pop. Every other decent game is gone, so it's not really worth the trip.
