I started off by just wanting a TV.... then I talked myself into a PS2.... and you cant watch dvds with the TV speakers.... so I think I talked myself into a basic 5.1 home theatre system too.... everything would be around $1000.... more than I want to spend, but if I am going to get all of these items, I want to do it in one swoop. Is there anywhere you would recommend going where you can haggle and bargain on the price and see if they will do things like throw in cables, free ps2 games, etc. I was planning on buying an extended warranty or two because as a college guy, sh!t happens when your buddies are over.... and with all the frequent moving in and out of apartments...

Any chain store that you would recommend over the other?

BB CC something else? The problem is finding a store that carries the JVC AV27D303 as so far I have only found CC, Sears, and American....

No retail store haggles. They have their price and that is what they sell it for. The only exception are open box items. You can sometimes get them to lower the price more if you are willing to buy a service plan.

If you want to haggle go to Chinatown or a flea market.

Let me rephrase that then.... what store are more likely to throw in extra crap for the customer if he is dropping 7-1200 on stuff?

None. All the big chain store sure as heck don't care how much you are spending. They make so much money that your $1000 means nothing to them. I guess the only type of place that might is a place where the salesman is on commission because he wants to sell you that $1000 but the problem is the fact he would have to get management approval to give anything away.

You, my friend, have been shopping at entirely the wrong places. :Q That, or you just haven't been haggling properly. :D

Don't go to Staples and expect to be able to haggle a nationwide chain. Go to a local electronics store. Not only will they be more likely to have what you want - if they don't have it, they can get it for you pretty easily. And they haggle - and give cash discounts too.

What's the matter, have you guys never seen "Let's make a deal"? Stores haggle. You just have to work a little harder with some. :D

You want to go to store where the sales reps get commission. They can cut cost and lose some of their commission for you, and even throw some items in.

Store that I know are on commission is CC, SharperImage, Sound Advice. Good luck.

Well he said he wanted a place where he can get it all. Locally owned places usually don't carry everything he wants. I have done plenty of haggling at Best Buy on open box items. It also helps to know what they are actually allowed to without management getting involved. I have walked away with all sorts of things over half off at best buy if I would pay $30 for a service plan. I save $150 and pay $20. Always a good deal.

You have to know what employees are allowed to do without management. I work in a store on commission and I sure as heck am not going to give you more than a 5% break no matter what. I have so many customers it really don't make a difference to me especially this time of the year. If you are talking about May or June then I would be more likely to deal since i see so few customers.

Yes, you guys have obviously been going to the wrong stores. Here in Cali, The Good Guys is a great store to haggle at. Most people don't even think to do so but in the last few years I've never paid the price marked on the shelf. At the very least I get a discount equivalent to the cost of a service plan and then get the service plan. So usually they will "give" you a service plan for no additional cost above what's marked on the shelf. Most people just don't think to haggle at stores like this, but its well worth the time.

My best job was getting $70 off of a $320 car amplifier just by asking. Didn't even need to buy a service plan to get that deal. My usual line is let me have it for the price on the shelf out the door, ie take off about 10% to cover my sales tax. Works all the time.
