Hey ....I finally decided (err I think) on what to get. I am interested in purchasing the following:

MSI PRO2A
Thunderbird 1.1 Ghz
256 MB crucial (133 if I really need it...Need help here)doubt Im gonna overclock this...but who knows??)

A decent fan (who's??)

Trying to decide on where to get this stuff....Been on pricewatch and got good prices but still can't decide which vendor is best to deal with. Your response would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

MasterM

well, i'd suggest the 1.1 ghz tbird boxed from www.essencom.com
it's boxed, so i have more confidence in it than the OEM tbirds i've worked with

get pc133 crucial from none other than www.crucial.com . i think 128mb is going for around 70 bucks these days.

not sure where to find mobo, pricewatch prolly works for that. and any fan by sunon is a good start.

You can find the mobo at AllStarShop for $115. They get great reseller ratings too. As for the HSF, you can use the retail one if you buy the Boxed TBird.

PC Progress and Sparten Tech. are both at the bottem price for the MSI board..they are both good suppliers.. $124, (why not wait for the K7T Turbo,(133 FSB & supports new T/B 266)...

The two low prices for the 1.1gig T-B are OK also, EconoPC & Accubyte - $214, $215, (again, T/B 266 to match K7T Turbo..released soon)

Memory = http://www.crucial.com/index.asp?imodule=CT32M64S4D7E $170..free shipong now

HSF = GlobalWin FOP32 = http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/1/142.htm?448 $ 20

If your considering overclocking at all, the 1.1 gig doesn't have a good track record..get a 1gig or 1.2....

If you have been following motherboard posts, you probably know that the MSI board is one of the slower boards, but is probably the stabilest, another board to consider is the IWILL KZ200, a high quality board that combines speed and stability, and has all the overclocking features...

good luck

AllStar shop is a nice find...not on pricewatch...

Insomnium, where did ya find AllStar Shop at?

Tnx...

PS: above all, get the GlobalWin FOP32 HSF...and use Arctic Silver Thermal paste... It will keep your CPU temps in the 40's at full CPU load... carefully remove the thermal tape from the FOP32 and clean off any residual adhesive, then use "Small CPU Area" Arctic Silver on the Fop32

Over on Resellerratings.com they have a section that lists the sites with the best ratings. I just went down that list and eventually came upon AllStarShop which offered good prices on a lot of products that i was looking for.

You can find the list over here.

I'd recommend getting a Taisol fan if you want a cheaper efficient HSF. The globalwin and alpha is too much cash (20-30 bucks each) if you're not sure of overclocking. The Taisol will allow you to overclock some, but not as much as the others. www.2cooltek.com has good deals on combos for what you need.

Make sure you check a vendor's reseller ratings before purchase..that can mean the difference between life and death :)
