Where's the best Chinese restaurant in LA? (Monterey Park, Alhambra, etc.)

My mom is coming to visit, and she's looking forward to eating some good Chinese food... the only problem is, I have no idea where to take her (I can't afford to eat out much).

Any suggestions? A name and an addy or phone number would be great, thank you! 🙂 A dinner place and a dim sum place would be great... she loves wonton soup and all dimsum dishes.

Thanks Ranger X... could you please tell me how to get to Valley from West LA? (10-E...)

Valley pretty easy to get to. 10-E, exit Atlantic, take the one offramp that takes you "left". Stay in the right lane, valley is 2 lights up. Make a right, left takes you to nowhere close to food.

I suggest going to Ritz Garden on Main St in Alhambra. Go left onto Valley. Then make a right on Marango. Then make a left on Commonwealth. (Past the Home Depot on right) Then make a right turn at the stop sign. It will be across the street from the Alhambra Hospital. Just remember to tip here, they will seriously follow you out if you dont. Dim sum ranges from 1.75 - 5.00.

Face it...you're a banana and don't know any authentic chinese places

Monterey Park is facking cheap. But do you want Hong Kong style or Taiwanese food

Ocean Star is pretty good. Its on the corner of Atlantic and Garvey.
888 is good too but their portions have gotten a lot smaller since they have become more popular in the last few years. Its on Valley Blvd. between San Gabriel Blvd. and Walnut Grove.

I've lived in this area my whole life so I know it pretty well.

10 East. Exit Garfield, Go North, left on Valley, turn right immediately into NBC (or NYC) seafood resturant. good stuff. The Baceri Grill next to it is pretty good too.

Alhambra resident here 🙂

There are many places where you can get Dim sum. Try 888 in Monterey park, 828 on Valley (unrelated to 888), and Sam Woo on valley.

yeah as i understand it Valley has great taiwanese food, i wouldnt know the difference at all, but i get dragged there usually once a week because its so good...

but what do i know
<---still maintains General Tsao's is the best chinese food even though i know its not real chinese food

Heh NBC usually gets a grade B or C every other month.

626 here. I ditto on the Ocean Star suggestion.

Mind if i go too? Your mom will be thrilled to know that you go out with a nice Chinese boy like myself 😛

Thank goodness you figured out where the best Chinese food is - Monterey Park. That's my hometown's only claim to fame. I know people who drive 2 hours to come eat lunch/dinner there.

you should also know that the lower Grade the more authentic the food is 🙂

blah, you should never go behind and see what the hell is happening in the kitchen anyway, I heard way too many horror stories that I gave up caring what grade they get. heck, there are restuarant that don't even have a grade! and I eat there and I am still alive.

You guys are the greatest, thanks... mapquesting now! And I'm not a banana, I just can't afford to eat out a lot. 🙁 Last night I had beans and rice. But now that mommy's visiting, she can pick up the bill. 😀

Heh... feel free to come to the restaurant, "Ocean Star" has been mentioned a couple times so we'll definitely check that out either Saturday or Sunday. 🙂

also watch out for the thugs at night

oh stfu! 😛
Just watch the Got Beef? video. Oh and don't get cornered to a fence. 😉

dill, pok kai la, Viet folks hang out in China Town, Baldwin Park, and Fountain Valley; you can only find sleazy HK ppl with expired I-20 in Alhabmra/MP area 🙂

on an unrelated topic:
I strongly suggest Phoenix Inn. Located in both China Town and Alhambra (10 East, exit Garfield to Alhambra North, Right on Valley, its on your right opposite of Taco Bell and OK Cafe.)

I like Happy Family Restaurant in Montery Park. My family takes me there when i come home from WA.

It's all vegitarian food but it excellent.

This isn't really in the area u want, but in downtown LA, Chinatown, there is a DOPE restaurant...

Foo Chow Restaurant.

Rush Hour 1 was filmed in there.

The food is awesome - my grandma is from the Foo Chow providence in China, and the food is just as good as hers. 🙂

There's also a PF Changs at the Beverly Center - go there.

ehheheh j/k
