Where's the AM2 Buying Guide?

River Side

I'd love to see an AM2 Buying Guide.. specially interested in that neat little graphic Anandtech did with Mobo FSB's when overclocking.. I'd like to get the same info for AM2 boards out now so I can choose wisely..

anyone know if tests have been done and do we have a winner like DFI Lan Party?

We will have a review of the first two RD580 for AM2 boards up next week. Additional AM2 reviews will be in early August. I do not know if we will have a guide yet.

Is there a need for one? Seems everyones either buying into Conroe or sticking with s939 and buying discounted X2 CPU's ATM.
$ for $, AM2 unfortunately seems a little pointless at this stage 🙂
gary, I am looking forward to the AT9 32X review though!

People buying s939 over AM2 at the moment are pretty foolish, unless you like not having an upgrade path. 😛

I am buying a socket 939 after the price cuts for gaming, I dont see it being a big issue since it will still run everything out for right now and even work well for quite some time. But hey to each his own.

Bateleur, what's the point of having an upgrade path if your actually taking a backward step (or at least not forward!) NOW (with AM2).
As I said, stick with your current S939 and upgrade to X2 or if you NEED a complete new rig then Conroe will be a $ for $ performance no brainer very shortly.

My sentiments exactly!

Most of us already have s939 though, and can pick up a high-end X2 pretty cheap next week. That will keep us going for some time to come. Later next year we can go Conroe or whatever else is available then. No need for AM2 at all really.

for those who've already bought into 939.. i'd say there's no need to go AM2.. but for someone like me contemplating a build soon, the choices are to go 939, or adopt AM2 or conroe.. I'd rather stick with AMD and AM2 seems to be a better choice as there'll be more high end CPU's in the AM2 and AM3 slot than on the distontinued 939.. thus the need for a Buyer's Guide..

Thanks Gary.. i'll keep an eye out for it.. hope u can include as many mobo's as possible and the under $200 varities too!! 🙂

Yeah, I hope he also able to get his hands on some DFI boards (right now that seems to be Infinity only). We haven't seen what DFI brings to the AM2 table yet, and those could be the boards that people should be buying! However, I feel that conroe or upgrading an existing S939 is where its at ATM

Or rather, you already have a few gigs of DDR 400 speed ram and do not see the "benefits" of AM2 as enough reason to fork out the cash for DDR2.

The Benefits of AM2 is strickly upgradeability. With the 5000 X2 being a meer 282$ .. which is basicly a FX 60 for 282$... that in my opinion is a much better deal then anything out there. i dont know why anyone would do anything but that path unless they calculate PI alot.. then by all means go Conroe
