right click on the desktop, the second thing on your drop down menu would be nvidia panel, go there... look in the options, it should be there.

I don't have that option using the 178's on Vista x64.

AFAIK there's no way to get the tray icon in Vista

We want one of these in our tray, nvidia! (only with the nvidia eyeball thing 😛)

Service Pack 1 seems to be the trouble maker for the tray icons disappearing. People have also complained about their Bluetooth app tray icons disappearing after SP1 install as well. I'll forward this question to Nvidia. I've also done some searching on this, and one thing to try is to completely uninstall the Nvidia driver through the control panel, then go into "C:\Nvidia\Nvidia Vista" and delete the install directories for all the drivers you have installed so far. Reboot, and do a fresh install of the latest Vista64 driver for your GPU. Try that for now until I hear anything back from NV.

Thanks.

I'll try all that now.

Edit: no go 🙁

Theres no option in the drivers (it used to be in the view drop down yes?)

Any news? (although I appreciate its probably not at the top of their to-do list)

I got tired of waiting for nvidia so I made my own. It doesn't have as much functionality as the real icon did back in XP, but I mostly just made it because it looks cool 😛. You can double click to open the nvidia CP or right click to make it start with windows or exit it.

Here's a screenshot of it on my ATI system. I had to seperate the ATI and the nvidia icons so they didnt fight :Q

Link to download

.NET 3.5 is required to run it. 🙂

Cheers for trying

Like I said I can understand why it wouldnt be at the top of their list.

So I got a reply. They mentioned that barely any people were using the tray icon to access the Nvidia control panel. Instead, most users would just right click on the desktop and click "Nvidia Control Panel". So, I don't believe they intend to incorporate the tray icon into Vista. Probably the same for Win7.

If you think about it, it's the same amount of steps to open the CP from either the desktop, or the tray icon. They both get you to the same place. And now that I thought about it, I seldom ever used the tray. Always from the desktop for myself.
