70% of the market has AGP systems. A lot of those are still fairly "current" and/or speedy. Upgrading your MB+CPU (and possibly memory) just to "save money" on a PCI-E video card is what costs $$$$$. The cash cow is not selling AGP video cards, the cash cow is convincing everybody with decent AGP systems that they need to ditch them and buy PCI-E systems (so they can save 10-bucks on a video card).

The same announcements which refered to the release of the AGP 6800GS also stated the card would carry the same price point... about $250.

Thanks for the heads-up. Stupidly, I didn't even bother to check to see if the UPC codes matched. I'll have to check my scans when I get home.

That's complete BS if they don't honor that. I would take a screen cap of microcenter's page for the card where they list the sku for the card and the rebate as the same, and make them give a refund if ATI doesn't honor the rebate because it isn't the "correct" card.

I'd take it back if it was the wrong code. I checked my UPC at the store and, of course, it matched.

You really think that the AGP GS is going to be as cheap as the PCI-E version..?

Let me put this as simply as I can:

AGP = a$$ hurting

I worried about this all day. First thing I did tonight when I came in the door is check my scans. I'm happy to say the UPC code from my scan does indeed match one of the codes for the rebate form. Hopefully the guy who had the rebate problem on FW was just an isolated incident.

Seems safe now, and $250 AR for the x850xt AGP is a superb deal for those of us who haven't migrated to PCI Express.

Not that I know of. Seems like they are trying to deplete remaining stocks of the 6800GT from re/e-tailers. So me thinks they can start selling the 6800GS at a higher price point. Just my opinion.

How does the 6800GS compare with the 6800GT?

the 6800gs pretty much runs toe to toe with the 6800gt give or take a few fps here and there in most benchmarks, but i gave up on the 6800gs and just purchased a 6800gt instead.

thanks

cheapest GTs are around $280 aren't they? . . . and hard to find in AGP compared to PCIe?

i think the manufacturers - especially nVidia - underestimated the AGP to APG upgraders market . . . ATI ain't much better if you want a fast AGP card with SM3.0

looks like i may just buy a 360 to 'tide' me over till i get my real complete upgrade in '07.

Yeah, and we see how reliable those announcements have been... Besides, the PCI-E GS goes for about $210 at most etailers. The AGP/PCI-E deal with the GS is deceptive also, since they will be on different cores, basically what you will be getting in the AGP version is a 6800nu core with GT RAM. Why not just bite the bullet and get a real GT (and clock it at Ultra speeds) or pick up the cheaper (and most likely faster) X850XT already posted about in this thread? It seems the sku# scare was unfounded.

Basically the 6800NU core IS the same as the 6800GT core... and the 6800U core... oh yeah, they're all N40 cores!

Ummm... I did (look at my sig-line).

I've been telling folks it's "okay" to buy a 6800GT if they can find one for a reasonable price. That's what I did afterall, and I'm happy having one of the fastest AGP cards on the market and I get my SM3.0 too!

You get the point - i hope . . . the x800 series lacks . . . . current features in CURRENT games. . . . i don't want a "just a faster" 9800xt. :p

so i am "stuck" with the [relatively expensive] 6800GT if i want SM3.0 in AGP? Are we sure the AGP 6800GS will be a cut down core of the PCI 6800GT version?

EDIT: i see from Hot Deals thread you DID buy the x850xt . . . really nice card . . . i almost bought it also . . . but i really DO want SM 3.0 features . . . my choices are 1) upgrade my rig to PCIe [Not now; so count that OUT]; 2) buy a x850xt and "miss out"; 3) get a 6800GT or GS . . . 4) Wait for r580x1650xt. . . . oh yeah - 5) forget PC gaming and get a 360

i don't like my choices :p

I've noticed from looking around, that all the info. on this card in AGP trim seems to ultimately be based on an article from The Inquirer. Is there any first hand info. on this card in AGP from other sources?

I'm looking harder now at the Apollo 6800NU which seems to have the 16/6 configuration out of the box....based on what the reviews say on NewEgg.

Well my $$$'s tied up on Christmas right now so I guess I'll wait awhile...see what happens (as you can see from my sig, I've wiated this long already...).

Only info Iv'e seen on the 6800GS is the one site pre-selling it overseas. I don't think they would pre-order something that wasn't comming out. It is for real, but as for performance compared to 6800 vanilla, I'm not so sure we would get that much of a boost. That's why I'm concidering the Vanilla and just using the step-up if the GS is substantially better. My 2 cents.

Good for you. My point was that is was silly to wait for these GS cards to become available when the GT is here now, especially when the availability and pricing is still up in the air on the GS. My point about the NV40 core is that the best that you can hope for with a nu and GS core is 16 pipes (with mods), whereas with a GT you get 16 pipes out of the box.

I gave up on this thing.

I believe this is a malicious rumor and nothing more.

Otherwise...

Why wouldn't NVIDIA be talking about it?

Why would NVidia miss out on the pre-Christmas gift window as well as the immediate post-christmas flurry of buyers upgrading to play the games they got for Christmas?

I took advantage of the Microcenter X850 deal and saved @ $100 over what I could get it for elsewhere. Anyway you twist it, it will be a big improvement over my 9600Pro.

Merry Christmas!!!

true, i'm sure there has been no official announcement from NV about this card coming in agp flavor, everything just points back to the Inquirer.
