Where's a good place to find a DC car adaptor for my laptop?

Hello all,

I'm heading out on a week-long road trip from Missouri to California. I want to take my laptop, a Compaq 2135US, but I'm having a hard time finding a DC car adaptor. Is there a good site for this type of stuff? I tried Newegg and Googlegear, but couldn't really find anything useful.

Thanks for any help.

I think what you'd want is a DC to AC power inverter. You plug it into the cigarette lighter and then you can plug in your gear as normal. They come in various sizes depending on what you want to power as well as more advanced features. I used my roommate's 400 watt one when I went on my most recent road trip. Worked great for powering my Sony R505TS with dvd docking station. Hope this helps.

Here's one of the first google links I found.

Thanks for the info. I'll go pick up one tonight.

you either want an inverter, or a DC-DC converter. if you're really hard up for one, go to radioshack or compusa or whatnot, and use that.

the inverter will allow you to use any ac adapter on it, however, since your laptop uses DC, it's going to be DC-AC-DC, and you're going to lose some efficiency in the transfer. if you get a true auto adapter, you wont have this problem.

either way, you're looking to spend $50 to $100.

you may be able to find an auto adapter on ebay.
