Where's a good bar to hear live bands in Chicago?

Starting tomorrow I begin my four day weekend. I'm planning on going out to hear a few local bands if I can find a good bar to hang out at. Any suggestions? If anyone wants to hang out with me, let me know. The first couple of round of drinks are on me.

I saw a show at the Double Door when I was there a few years ago.

I liked it.

If you like Indy I'd suggest the Trans Am show on Saturday at the bottle. I've seen them several times they're a good show.

SAT. 6/5/04 (10:00pm; $12)
Trans Am label: Thrill Jockey
Bobby Conn label: Thrill Jockey
The Frequency label: Noreaster Failed Industries
TRANS AM have spent the better part of their career humorously aping the varying musical elements that have inspired them - whether they be highly technical stadium rock anthems or austere, paranoid electronic compositions - but with their latest release, Liberation, the group's focus has become decidedly more political, though again with the usual sense of humor and irreverence firmly in place. They'll be joined by irascible personality BOBBY CONN. He and his GLASS GYPSIES will be playing in support of their new Thrill Jockey record The Homeland. The album picks up where CONN last left off, and his ability to cull together seemingly disparate elements with such brilliant ease continues to compel and confound. THE FREQUENCY, a side project ensemble led by TRANS AM drummer SEBASTION THOMSON, will play first and will be supporting their recently issued self-titled debut.

first thing you should do when you get into town is pick up a Reader, you can get them at coffee shops, white hen pantries, etc.

it lists pretty much everything going on in town.
