Where would you go to buy complete designer eye glasses

I don't mind paying a little more for a reputable dealer that will produce good eye glasses the first time, and someone that I won't have to return the glasses to. I've tried zenni, and while i was satisfied with my cheap glasses, i'm looking for someone that has oakley frames and can do 1.70 or 1.74 hi index lenses at a fair price (my blindness has caused me to have a prescription of -6.50). I've tried looking at framesdirect.com, but their ratings online don't look that good. Has anyone had any good experiences with this, or other dealers and can recommend some?

I've also tried looking at lenscrafters and their 1.67 hi index lenses are $400 and the frame is about $100 more than online dealers. Also I don't like the ringing effect and people have said that the better quality anti-reflective coatings can do some things to reduce that. I'm looking at the crizal alize and zeiss super et antireflective coatings.

Thanks

See if you have any Ulla Eyewears around you, thats where I got these, and they had a much better / fancier selection than anywhere else around.

I have Oakley's with Zeiss lens. Luckily, my brother's wife's father owns a high-end optical store and scored me a major discount.

Best bet, is to call around and find out what kind of prices they charge.

Yeah, I think i'll look, but i don't know if i can trust that the lens will come out made perfectly. I would trust lenscrafters, except the quality of their lenses for the prices isn't up to par with the competition around here...was thinking of turning to the online vendor...

I got my glasses and prescription sunglasses from lenscrafters. This is the second time in a row I've gotten them from there. Both times, they screwed up on the lenses (kept falling out of the frame) and I had to wait 1-2 weeks to get replacements. But once I got the replacements, I was fairly satisfied.

Yeah, as explained in my post, i have a pair from zenni optical, but i want a specific pair of oakleys with a specific kind of anti reflective coating with a high index lens that they do not provide. Are there any other places online?

OK, maybe not the most fashionable glasses, but they look fine, plus they were under $40 all together, and have AR coating and polarized magnetic sunshade.
I still have a Nike Flexon frame that I paid 10x as much for, and these are better, IMO.

I ordered another pair.
I mainly wear contacts but wear glasses around the house.

Total cost about $32 bucks shipped for rimless glasses.

If you know the exact model number, I'm sure someone online carries it...I found a great seller on eBay that sold a pair of Matsudas that no one carried via a regular website. DOC wanted like $300-400 for the frame alone and I got everything finished at around $200?

Take any frame you want to Cost Co and have them mill up your lenses...prices are great. You can also have various websites do this.

dont know if its the crizal alize or speccific to my pair, but my normal glasses just LOVE fingerprints. i barely barely barely touch it and it leaves a fat print coat and distort my view. these are my expensive glasses

my zenni, while they dont have the superb clarity of the crizal, dont seem that affected by fingerpriints, and the glasses get compliments from stranges ALL the time. just yesterday someone at the mall asked if my glasses were gucci - i got the entire thing for 15$ shipped

I don't have much experience with high index, aside from my nike flexons with high index zeiss lenses. I would not recommend that combo because the lenses can't really handle the flex and cracked around the edges. I am about -7 too. Generally I have the zenni glasses with a lot of spare clip ons since I need shades for biking and so on, and then I have some contacts for when I want to go for less nerdy look :)
Keep in mind that high index will only help with edge thickness, but you'll still have the distortion of your eyes looking smaller. Also, Zenni has a high index 1.67 option on the drop down menu for an extra 35 bucks. I never actually use my VSP to buy glasses since just anti-reflective and high index options that you have to pay extra for are several times than whole glasses from there.

Yeah, my VSP plan covers more for contacts so i just use it for contacts. I think i'm going with framesdirect.com. All the local optical dealers are just ridiculous for the exact setup i want. I have a pair of rimless from Zenni, and while not that bad, I want to see what all the hype is with these other antireflective coatings. I have a lot put into a flex spending account this year anticipating the purchase of new eyeglasses, so I have a lot more room to spend. thanks for the input guys.

I just ordered a frame from clearlycontacts.ca (coastal contacts for yanks)... $55 all in. I haven't got them yet, I'll report back on quality.

I got my glasses from Target optical, since insurance covered most of it ($110 out of $130 glasses, I believe). AR coating, "memory metal" frames, half-rims. I spent some time talking to the optometrist there and he seemed like a knowledgeable and cool guy.

EDIT: boo, missed the part about designer. Oh well, I have no qualms about the quality of my glasses. I have contacts, but I actually wear my glasses more now because I like them.
