Where would you go to buy a laptop motherboard?

My gateway 600ygr notebook's motherboard is shot, according to Microcenter (the only place in my area that repairs notebooks). They said if I bring in a replacement they'll install it for free. I can't seem to find any places to buy from. Can someone help?

Well no one answered at the Gateway tech place (I left a message), and I still cant find anything substantial through google....

Anyone have any idea how much a notebook mobo costs? Its a 1.6 processor with like a Gefore3 or something. Its actually my friend's laptop. I'm just wondering general prices, because I wonder if its even worth it.

This is a really random estimate...but from looking at prices online, they seem to be in the $200+ range. If I were in your shoes, I'd verify shipping/handling policies with the Gateway place, and make sure you get some kind of assurance on your local store, so that after you get that motherboard they don't say, "oh...uh yeah, the motherboard wasn't the problem after all."

What about Gateway? I'm guessing that notebook's no longer under warranty, huh? Anyway, a 1.6 Gig laptop isn't bad at all. If it costs less than 300 to fix, I'd go for it. Otherwise, sell the parts off and have your friend buy a new laptop. Just my $0.02.

Call Gateway and get the actual motherboard part number. Now do your searching for that number. Don't give up. You might add some words to the search like Gateway, notebook, and motherboard. Juggling the word order may give you some varying results. I just fixed an old Sony notebook using this strategy and found a price for the part I was looking for that varied from $175 to $1100 for the same part. There are a ton of used and surplused parts out there for old noteboks.
