I'd probably pick one or the other to start with and get your feet wet. If you have live music where you live, it could be beneficial to investigate your local scene, and get to a point where you can chat with the people running sound. Assuming you're at an event for the type of music you like to hear, that can give you good local recommendations for getting into things. If you're near the sound board you can also get a feel for what they're doing during sound check. Live sound can be pretty stressful, and of course, studio work can be the same because people are paying a lot of money to be there.
