Where will DL DVD-/+RW's bottom out in terms of price?

Well, whadya think? (I'm thinking about biting the bullet and nabbing one the next time a deal on the NEC 2510 rears its head....)

I'm guessing they'll bottom out at $40 when Blu-Ray/AOD hits the market. But otherwise I think $60 is the limit for the next year or so.

Yeah, they will never be cheaper than CD-RW drives are now. If you need to burn DVDs then get one now, they aren't that expensive, if not, then don't bother getting one.

i got mine around the beginning of the yr for ~80$. Its paid for itself for at least 5x that amt in the stuff i've backedup 🙂

The format war looks like it's going to continue for a while, although the +RW Alliance will probably win out eventually IMO, since they're pushing for the advances consumers want while the official DVD forum members haven't made any strides since 4x -RW...

I picked up a 4x dual format for $85 shipped in January, but returned it b/c it refused to work (BTC IM4001 model)

I just don't see dual layer burners dropping under $60 though - CDRWs sit around 30-40 minimum, so I figure the cost of producing an optical drive isn't much lower than that. Since there ought to be premiums for DVD, DVD+/-RW, and DL, I'm guestimating that the DL premium will put these things around $60.

With this rationale, I can easily justify paying a $25 premium to get a DVD DL burner now instead of 12mos from now.
