Assuming you were alive, do you remember where you were when Apollo 11 landed and Neil Armstrong set foot upon the moon?

And just a thought, but for something so historic an event, how many people knew the importance of July 20 without the year being mentioned?

I was about 14 years away from being born. If you hadn't included the year, I would have had no idea what you were talking about. And even if you had included the year, I would have had no idea without you specifying the moon landing. July 20th just doesn't strike me as a day that's etched into the national conscience in the same way as December 7th (Pearl Harbor) or September 11th (World Trade Center) or July 11th (free Slurpee day).

In the kitchen of the farmhouse my grandfather built watching it with him. It was a toss up which of us was more excited. He lived from the steam age to watching a man land on the moon. I hope to live long enough to witness half the incredible changes he saw.

I was less than a year old, so I was probably in a stroller or crawling around.

Summer between 7th and 8th grade, I was glued to the TV watching it and trying to record it on my cassette recorder.

Not quite three years married, my wife and I watched it on live (black & white) TV in our basement apartment.

And no, I did not recognize the date.

Broke open a thermometer and was rolling mercury around on top of the telly. It got away (quicksilver is faster than a weasel in heat!) and found the slots in the back of the chassis. Some pretty blue/green sparks from inside along with the magic smoke meant the event was missed for us. D:
