Where to take broken PC parts?

I have a broken monitor I need to do something with. Do you all just throw it in the trash? Our city/county doesn't have a dump, and the recycling facility (in another county) I think only takes all plastic, all glass, etc. As much as I've read about the problems of old PC's piling up in the landfills (plus the chemicals they contain), I just thought I'd at least check for a proper disposal before throwing it in the trash.

I put all my broken/outdated/unwanted computer parts and monitors on the curb. Someone usually scarfs them up within an hour or so. I guess that's the result of living in a college town, I don't know, but anything I put on the curb is usually taken right away by someone who thinks they're getting free computer parts.

Yeah, but then they'll just toss 'em in the trash themselves.

Some manufacturers take back discarded monitors/components, and some will even take back other manufacturer's stuff too. I remember reading that Sony will do that in specific cities/areas. Search for services offered in your area. Sorry I don't have better info on this... I did a research project on computer recycling about a year ago, I could have helped you more then. 🙂

i toss all the old crap here in the dumpster
sometimes I can completely fill it 🙁

I take mine to goodwill, printers and monitors at least. They do the job of recycling all the broken stuff 😀

Your city should have a location for hazardous material disposal. Monitors, at the very least, should be properly disposed of. There are lots of eco-harmfull stuff in there (heavy metals, chemicals, etc).
