I was wondering if anyone could give me some recomendations, or point me to a link or two where I can learn about laptops. My daughter is going off to college and needs a laptop. Ive built my own systems up to now but must admit ignorance when it comes to those little skinny portables.. Any help would be much appreciated

Hmm... If you're going to buy one used go search one through fs/ft (lots there), try to make sure it has a warranty on it and ask if there are any dead pixels, battery holds charge, does it even include a battery, all buttons work, in perfect working condition etc. In other words just be paranoid.

If you're going to buy a brand spanking new laptop, go with Dell and before you make ANY sort of purchase, search through the hot deals forum extensively. EXTENSIVELY. It could mean a difference between a couple hundred.
