Where to ski near Vancouver?

Scarpozzi

Lifer
I'm trying to book my ski trip for next year in advance. I'm just curious how far away a good ski slope is from Vancouver. I'm spoiled becuase I'm used to Utah or Colorado...so those are normally 10-12,000 feet in elevation. I'm wanting to book for next year and know that Vancouver is where the winter Olympics are supposed to be next....so where's the snow...

I've looked at Grouse, Cypress, and Seymour and all appear to be pretty small...is it worth driving further North or maybe going to Calgary/Banff.

(Also, what's the weather like in Vancouver around December?) Thanks-

I've only been to Grouse, and it was good, but I'm not a real skier so my opinion doesn't count.
What time of year was it and how much/how soft was the snow?

It was late spring/early summer actually. It was good for that time of year, but not particularly soft.

OMG only the greatest ski resort in north america... whistler/blackcomb
What's the distance from Vancouver...like how far of a drive?

~2 hours

directions
I was curious just because I can get lodging for free basically in Vancouver, but don't want to have to drive 4 hours round trip every day that I want to snowboard. It's definitely a temptation to look into other lodging just to experience those slopes and say I've been.

Hell, I live in lower New York and do get a halfway decent ski resort I have to drive 4 hours into Vermont... so being hours away from someplace as amazing as Whistler would be a godsend!

I've only been to Whistler once, and it was during the summer... They had trail lifts operating so I went up on the mountains and hiked around a bit and really got a feel for how the trails would be with alot of snow on the ground... the place is immense! And the resort village itself is REALLY awesome... great people there too. I can only imagine how it must be during the season

Was just at Whistler for new years. Go there..now. Stayed at the Westin, best resort around. Love it. Close to the lifts. Village rocks.
