Where to sell concert tickets?

edro

Lifer
I have 2 tickets to a concert March 8, in Columbus, Ohio. (Slipknot, Nationwide Arena)

I bought these tickets through Ticketmaster, and the Floor seats were sold out. Because Slipknot is currently my favorite band, I couldn't bare going to the concert without being on the floor... so I bought 2 floor seats off eBay.

Now I have 4 tickets... 🙁 🙂

I want to sell my regular (though, front row in the stands) tickets. Since the show is in like 2 weeks... I would like to sell them quick.

I guess I will just put them on eBay, or try to sell them to friends, but what other suggestions are there?

I think if you sell it on ebay, you cannot sell them for more than facevalue?

to get around it, just uhh....sell an empty carboard paper towel roll, with "Free!" tickets! 😀

Nah, people sell tickets on eBay for above face value all the time. The ones I got off eBay are above face value. I just want to get face value back out of mine anyways, I don't care. If I don't sell them, I will try to get a few of my friends to go for free... even though most of them hate Slipknot 🙂

Oh, BTW, does anyone know what the deal is with selling above face value? I think you can sell above face value, if all the tickets are sold out? Or not sold out? Why is it illegal, but people still do it? I think it IS legal in certain circumstances...

Autioning tickets at higher than face value (scalping) is not illegal unless it is done in the vicinity of the location. (IE: standing outside the arena on event night selling them) but check local laws to be certain, because I may be wrong. As long as you aren't setting the price above face value and people are making the offer (whether it's above face value or not), I think that changes things.

If you live in Ohio Ebay won't let you sell them above x2 the face value. If it is totally sold out you might make a little $$

There are no laws for what you can sell for in Ohio, thus no policy by ebay on selling in Ohio.

slipknot sucks, and you should be strung up by your balls for:

a) supporting scalper scum
b) possibly being scalper scum

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER pay or sell for over face value. It encourages these bastards to slime their way into buying up all the good tickets, just to make a quick buck. i.e. it robs true fans of the opportunity to see a band they like at a fair price. It gives ticketbastard an excuse to jack up prices (in order to drive out scalpers by way of "competition")

I don't care if it's legal or not. if you love music, it's plain evil.

And you sir, are a moron. Supply and demand! I don't mind paying double or triple face value for tickets if I have to...

STFU. If someone can't get their ass to ticketmaster.com fast enough to get the tickets, it's their own loss.

And moreso, if they go on ebay, it's not him telling people to pay a certain amount, it's potential buyers willing to PAY MORE THAN THE NEXT PERSON. I'm sure there are more than 20,000 concert seats in nationwide, plus a few thousand floor spots. If all those people can get their tickets in a timely manner for a show that most likely didn't sell out in less than a week, then it's your own fault if you can't.

You obviously don't understand the situation. The reason all the good seats (and sometimes ALL the seats) sell out so fast, isn't because fans rabidly snap them up that quickly. A VERY large chunk is bought by "resellers" who have inside connections, special access to "premium member" ticketmaster servers and phone lines. The resellers jack up the price so high that only the deep pockets can afford them...and guess what? most of the die-hard fans, the ones that truly love the band, can't pay that. Businesses pick them up as perks for clients, who are, at best, only moderatly interested in the band. So the concert (or at least the good seats) is full of rich a-holes who don't listen (and the occasional desperate fan) , who talk through the show like everyone came to hear THEM.

Do you really want the real fans shut out of concerts? Do you want the real fans relegated to the lawn & nosebleeed seats? That's what's happening, and it's getting worse. If more people flatly refuse to pay or sell over face, the market dries up, and things get better for everyone. Everyone, that is, except the scalper scum.

YOU STFU.

That's the biggest bunch of BS I've heard today. Usually less than 2% of a venue's tickets are given away to partners. At best, in a venue that holds 50,000 capacity, that's 1000 tickets given away. That includes tickets for radio station sponsors, affiliates of the venue and the required tickets set forth by the artist for their friends & family/etc. What the hell would be the point of giving away any more than that? Why bother having a public show? Why bother trying to make money?

Ticketmaster is usually given certain sections of seating that they can sell, and oftentimes a number of the seats aren't released for sale by ticketmaster until they won't sell at the venue's box office.

Seriously man, this crap you are making up amazes me. You think some reseller is going to buy thousands of slipknot tickets to give away to rich people? "HERE, HAVE TICKETS TO A THRASH METAL BAND AS MY WAY OF BUTTERING YOU UP."

I've been to good amount of concerts and I've NEVER had a problem getting good seats when I get the tickets in the first few days. I've also been on the receiving end of many free tickets to shows courtesy of my brother, who works for clearchannel (the lead sponsor in MOST of the local venues' events... the seats are NEVER front row and are more often than not LAWN passes... even when the pavillion has no chance of selling out!

Don't go on about how "true fans" are getting screwed... because that is just a bunch of lies. True fans are smarter than to think that the best tickets will be available 1 week before the show when they went on sale 2 months ago.

Aside from you being dead wrong, I see NO PROBLEMS WHAT-SO-EVER with capitalism and the laws of supply and demand working their magic. If you can't get tickets to a concert, cry me a river.

you're mistaking the venue's business partners, who get comp tickets (what you're talking about), with the underhanded slimeball reseller market (what I'm talking about). comp tickets, while I think they are somewhat of a problem - the amount of comp tickets available varies by venue, and also slightly by artist, is usually, as you say, very small, however, I have seen venues where it's essentially rows 11-30, with rows 1-10 being "gold circle" (which, by the way, was set up to "compete" with the scalpers") at already absurdly high prices. There's also sometimes a second set of comp tickets, only to concerts that have no chance of selling out. They're printed in droves and given away in thick stacks. These are often lawn passes, with the option of upgrading to pavilion for a small fee. they're intended to get people in the venue to buy drinks and food, and pay for parking. Those might be what you get from your brother, but since he works for the axis of evil, I don't know. 🙂

I also don't mean to imply that 50 year old lawyers are going to see slipknot. I'm talking about the concert industry in general, not one specific band.

True fans are getting screwed. I remember waiting in line for hours to get good tickets, with a team of friends trying on the internet, with everyone and their brother calling at the same time...the result of doing this the morning tickets went on sale? back row of the pavilion.

Ask yourself this: if what I'm saying is BS, how come dozens or hundreds of reseller agencies are all able to get 40, 50, 100 prime tickets to the highest demand shows, especially if the max you can buy from ticketmaster is 6 or 8 per person? how come they can get sooooo many of the best seats, while if you try as a fan, you get the nosebleeds. How come this happens over, and over, and over?

here's a link to help you out, o' great mental midget.

edit: and back to my original point: buying or selling for over face only encorages this crap. How great would it be if ticket agencies were left with hundreds of unsellable tickets?
