Where to rent manual transmission car?

I wanna learn to drive a MT, where can I rent one? Checked Budget since they let me rent (23 yrs old), but only autos listed online.

Tim just buy a $100 car that runs and turn headlights off, drive at night in the cary road work area and have fun removing cones from under car and cemet blocks from hood. 😛

And when the workers ask you WTF you were doing, tell them you have mexican insurance. open car door... and RUN!!!

I don't think you can. The biggest reason is that no everyone knows how to drive them so they buy all auto but the other problem is that clutches cost a lot to replace and they don't want someone breaking them every few days.

Hmmm...that might be worthwhile 🙂

About the only place you'll find one is in very high end specialty sports car rental boutiques. For what you'll pay to rent one there you can buy a couple of the cars Marlin1975 is talking about 😉

I know Avis has the option to choose a manual car when you rent... dont know if they actually have any on the lots though...

Why do you think 99% of rental companie sonly have Automatic transmissions? Because of jackasses like you that want to ruin their cars.

You are misinformed. Clutches are a lot cheaper to replace than internals of an automatic transmission, and they don't "break every few days" no matter how bad they are driven.

Could it also be 95% of the population don't want to drive a stick?

Ok, you're just an a$$...

WTF are you talking about?

On travelocity they have an option for manual transmission when searching for a car. I tried it once and came up with nothing...

It's not hard to figure out. The OP flat out stated that he wants to rent one specifically because he wants to learn how to drive one.

The funny part would be watching the OP try to drive the car off the lot.

You have an excellent point 😀

Go to a car dealership, pick out a car that's a manual, tell them you're interested in it, and have them teach you. Some of them will go that far to make a sale... but then you decide that it would be too much work with your stop-and-go morning rush hour work drive 😛

I know HOW to drive one and I've driven one once. I'm confident I could get one off the lot, maybe stall it once, just want to practice the rest blowhard.

I'd buy one for $100 just to learn... the only problem is I'd have to go through the hassle of registration/insurance, etc.

Don't you have 30 days to register your car in pretty much every state? That should be long enough to learn. My insurance company also gives me two weeks automatic coverage when I buy a car. I learned how to drive stick over the course of two days, at least well enough to actually drive to/from work, and improved my actual technique over the next couple weeks.

To be fair, it's better than what SOME people do to rentals. I still think buying a cheapo car, or having a sucker friend who lets you learn on theirs, is better.
