Where to position extra fan in CM 690 II Advanced?

Where should I put the extra fan?

  • Bottom

  • Sidepanel

  • Somewhere else

Hello!

I have just built my new PC in the Cooler Master 690 II Advanced, I have one extra fan (which came with my old Cooler Master case) that I would like to use. I was going to use it as an intake as that would create a more positive pressure which should yield lower temps. I was wandering where to put it, should I put it at the bottom? Or on the lower fan slot on the sidepanel?

Thanks in advance!

Why not try both ideas, and test how each affects your temps? It's hard to say for sure what the effect will be in each individual setup, but in this case I'd expect the effect to be pretty much the same either way.

What seems to work for me with mine is in from front and bottom, and out from top and rear. The "ins" cool the drive and the GPUs; the "outs" draw exhaust from these and the CPU cooler.

I used a similar approach when I moved my old Athlon XP build into an Antec 300 a couple of weeks ago -- and it dropped CPU temperatures about 10C from the stuffy old case (with a top-mounted PSU) it used to be in.

I'd imagine that for better cooling a fan on the side panel would do better but for silence a fan on the bottom would be better. Test it out and see which is important to you, or heck get another fan and put both in ;D
