Where to mount fans for CM 430 Elite

Hi All,

Recently i got my Cooler master 430 elite case. The case has got options for mounting 2 fans on top, 2 on the side, 1 at the front and 1 at the back. 2 at the bottom ( one is used by the PSU ).

With so many options, i'm confused where to mount the fans. I dont overclock and all i'm looking for is to make the best of the equipment i have( which is probably why i'm asking your opinion).

The case came with 2 x 120 mm fans. One had an LED and its mounted at the front and draws cool air inside. One more 120 mm fan is mounted at the side and blows air out (this sits near the PCIe slots).

Now the following slots are free.
  • 1 rear slot
  • 2 top slots
  • 1 side slot (facing the CPU fan)
  • 1 bottom slot (one more used up by the PSU)

I'm planning to purchase 2 more fans. But not sure where to mount them. Please suggest me where would i mount to get the best cooling.

I have a table where i have kept the cabinet. the table is sort of enclosed on all 4 sides except front and rear.

Hence i get 1 inch of space below the cabinet, 3 inches on top of the cabinet and 3 inches on the right ( where the side fan mounting slots are) and probably 1 inch of space on the left).

Please suggest me where can i mount the fans for best efficiency.

Great case !! I just got one as well at the Egg but it only came with 1 120mm fan. Plenty of NE reviews pointed this out, so I was not surprised, but I am now thinking I NEED that extra fan and have the same question as you.

IMO, I would mount the 2nd fan in the traditional upper mount rear location, exhausting air out. The front fan pulls, the rear mount then pushes and the HSF would benefit from that setup as well. This config has been used for ages since its the best setup for 2 fans.

Interested in how the topmount fan would do in an exhaust setup. Heat rises, and the HSF could possibly exhaust out the back to an extent, but I think the crossflow would ruin the airflow through the case in the typical mount I described above.
