Where to lube a Campbell-hausfield air compressor

Found another air compressor thread here, so hoping I can get some pointers. Fixing an air compressor so my rear tire doesn't strand me. Found this site: www.instructables.com/id/How-to-fix-your-12v-air-compressor/ (hope it's kosher to post that url) and it sounds like he's telling me to take the cam out, remove the "main bearing" and lube the bushings on each end, as well as everything else: the "crankcase", the cylinder for the piston, the lower end rod bearing, the piston and piston crown, the gears, and the bushings in the motor.

The bushings in the motor? Well, anyway if I can't find someone who has some Breakfree CLP can I use oil in an old oil can (like one w/the spout)? Don't know what type oil that is. Or 10W-30? Or white lithium grease? The box says permanently lubed and I see some on the baby crankshaft but adding lube sounds reasonable.

Everything seems to be in good working order except I can't get enough compression or air to inflate, even a football. Hose is good. If I lube all and put things back together I hope I can salvage this baby air compressor.

Thanks in advance for any interest & feedback.

damn that guy put in a lot of effort into a ~$10 compressor. they're lifesavers when you need one but they're meant to be bought, thrown in the back of the car, and used a few times a year at the most.

if you're not getting much compression check the reed valve, the cylinder head gasket, and the piston ring.

any motor oil you have laying around is fine, lithium grease will work too.

I bought a brand new one and was doing (not) exactly what yours is. Before I took it back, I realized the moisture release screw on the bottom of the tank wasn't tight. Saved me some embarrassment.

Yeah I could buy another. Being somewhat mechanical I wondered what's wrong with the thing. Intellectual exercise. It's like pondering the perennial American habit of throwing out anything they no longer want. I've actually worked at places that throw out computers because they 'look ugly'.

Thanks for the assistance.
