Where can a student look for summer jobs offline? I've about exhausting the thousands of online listings for my area, and only have less than a dozen actual jobs that I would be suited for and the chance of me getting hired for one is slim to none.

I'm looking for an IT job, I have two and a half summers' experience with NT and 2000, I know a lot about networking concepts (from general OSI model stuff to LAN/WAN design to specific things like interdomain and intradomain routing protocols, etc. etc.). I'm fairly proficient with PC hardware and generally have good social skills. And a year of C++ under my belt, with a good understanding of most basic data structures.

What I don't have is a specific knowledge on any one protocol or algorithm, or experience programming win32.

OK, that is the kind of place I don't think would have many IT jobs, some targeted for students. I know that layoffs are on the rise but it seems that unemployment offices would have more listings towards laborers and wage-earners than skilled IT guys.

Unless I am wrong.

I would say check out your local EDD office, it can't hurt to try, right? Just how badly do you want a new IT job.

Or check with your college.
