Where to locate 120x120x22 or thinner fans?

Apparently my search skills are on the decline today. I know someone inquired about this before, but I can't seem to find the thread. I've done various iterations of searches on Google, but I've come up with nothing. Where can these be found at a reasonable price?

Yeah, I need 22mm. I know they exist. The 25mm I have on my CPU heatsink makes the top case cover of my HTPC bulge slightly.

I'll see what I can find.

I'm sorry, I checked all the usual places for wierd stuff and couldn't find a thing. What heatsink are you using and in what case?

Hahahaha, I was so busy looking at places like buyextras and vetco and they're at jab-tech. It's too freakin early, lol.

i absolutely love jab-tech.

Its always my first store. Rarely will you hear a complaint about his store. Most of the complaints is because he doesnt carry something in stock. But its not his fault for you buying too slow.

😀

But yeah, i always check at jab-tech first for fans, and air cooling solution. Some of the things they carry will suprise you. I personally like the caffene mints for nights were i need to burn extra oil on my desk for late night catchup or servicing. 😛

I bought several of each version 120x20mm when they became available. The noise level...fair. The airflow.....poor. The ability to suck through a filter, or blow through a tight fin pack.....horrible.

Unfortunately.....such is likely to be the case for most thin fans of this size. Yate Loons are the only thin 120s readily available......AFAIK.

Thats for one or both of two reasons.

1) decreased blade surface area = less static pressure for obvious reasons

2) decreased blade pitch, this is the slightly complicated one. Fans with pitched blades move air in two directions, from one side to another and rotationally in the same direction the blades are going. A given blade surface area at a given rpm equal a defined ammount of thrust(not yet static pressure). That thrust is divided between directional and rotational. A straight, flat, square fan blade at 45* would in theory divide it equally between the two. That is of course with nothing in front of or behind it with zero wind. then there's air density, blade thickness, blade shape, curvature of the blade, number of blades, blade width, blade length and housing that all change the ammount of air moved by a fan.

But, using the basic principles, the loss of depth to the fan means less area for pitch and less pitch means less directional air and more rotational air. Maybe I should put together a beginners guide to air cooling, or even just a fan guide.

yeah thanks for this info... i was kinda worried about it due to its thiness.

:T

thats why i said i dont know how they perform as i have never used them b4.

Scythe has a 120x20mm fan also, but it comes packed with one of their coolers, and I have unfortunately forgotten the model. I'm not sure if they sell it separately yet, or if they plan to.

I think you are likely to see more of these thin fans of a relatively large diameter...shortly.

I also bought two Scythe fans 100x12mm. Right that's twelve mm. It's so thin you wouldn't believe it. (from Directron...comes on a heatsink). It's quiet up to about 7V.....but obviously doesn't blow much air. At 12V it pushes more air that I thought it would, but it also becomes too noisy for me to use, so I put a resistor in the circuit so it won't spin so fast.

These thin fans have their place....but don't expect much airflow without a lot of noise. :brokenheart:

LOL no wai.

No thickies for me kthxbye!

And no too skinny ones either.

And i'm talking about both women & fans 😉

I looked around on Scythe's site and all I could find was the Shuriken (http://www.scythe-usa.com/prod.../scsk1000_detail.html)), which is a 120x120x12mm fan. I don't think it's sold separately, though. I think these are the ones Bluefront is talking about.

Ok, the delta may have been overstating it just a little but, thick, fast and loud are how I like most things in my life.

Better than going with the saying "I like my women like I like my coffee, ground up and in the freezer" right?
