I'll be moving to the Twin Cities area after graduation. A friend also got a job up there and we're looking to split an apartment. Our jobs are about 30 miles apart.

Anyone from there have any recommendations of nice communities to live in that would approximately split the difference between these two locations? Preferably on the outskirts of Minneapolis or a western suburb.

My company has a realitor that I can go through for free but I thought I'd see what anyone here has to say first.

Also, assuming we avoid going through downtown, how is traffic during rush hour? I know taking 494 east out of town is pretty bad, but how are the interstates on the western side?

Based on both locations, Maple Grove seems like a good location. It's a growing northwest suburb with a good amount of new development. You should be able to get to either of those locations in reasonable times (not certain about rush hour).

There are also a couple new developments (lofts/townhomes) in Columbia Heights, which is close to one of the addresses. Heights is convenient to downtown, and is more of a "sleepy" first ring suburb.

Some of the more trendy areas you might consider would be Hopkins (Excelsior), or the Uptown area. Granted, they may be pricier.

Location-wise, you can probably find reasonable apartments/condos in the Plymouth/Crystal area - geographically they're probably in the center of those two locations.

I'm about 5 minutes from the location on E. River Road :)

Welcome to the Twin Cities.

Plymouth isnt that bad, a good medium between your jobs. Otherwise Edina or St. Louis Park or Golden Valley. If you have any questions feel free to PM me, always glad to help out. Good luck! And Welcome to MN!

St. Louis Park or the Uptown area of Minneapolis are good areas as well, especially if you like the live close to the nightlife where you can walk home. Uptown is good for that.

Also, I live about 1/2 mile away from that location in Chanhassen. Let me know if you need tips on the area.

I live in Eden Prairie, I used to live in Chanhassen about 2 miles from where that place is.
494E is OKAY in the morning, 494N/S are pretty bad during rush hour.

take 5 east boud outta market blvd, take 4 north, to 62 east, then 100north to where you need to go.

If money is a concern, stay away from Wayzata and the Lake Minnetonka area, very expensive. St. Louis Park, Crystal/New Hope are reasonable and in the middle of both locations. Welcome to MN.
