Where to learn

So, I've been browsing like 4 computer forums like crazy for the past week and I am now understanding a lot of the hardware/building.

But I am still really lost on the overclocking part.

Is there a beginners guide that I can learn the basics like;

Terms
Programs used
What things do
Heat issues

Thanks in advance 🙂

Thanks 🙂

Haven't chosen RAM or PSU yet.

And I want to do a suitcase mod for it since I travel between 2 places.

It looks like a good board tho.

As far as ram goes I dunno, I've heard if I want to overclock it i need to get better than some Valueselect...

I'm really open to anything.

Price... Is just a matter of waiting longer till I have more money,

In the long run I'd rather spend a tad more and not have to replace it in a year,

But I don't need to spend 1500+

your processor link goes to the ethiopian news agency. lol.

a word of caution about overclocking the 3000+:

the early run were amazing overclockers, as in people getting 2.8ghz on the stock cooler. then all of a sudden, they can't overclock for crap. i believe it was week 17 that was the start of the crappy overclockers. i have a week 20 and can't even get it to 2.0ghz at all.

i think you should go for the 3200+. personally, i'm sticking mine up on ebay and getting the 3700+ san diego core as they are good overclockers as well.

also, you need to make sure you have a good heatsink. the thermalright xp-90 is the best you can probably get for air cooling. top it off with a 92mm panaflo fan for a good balance between flow and noise level. but if you don't care about noise, just get a 92mm tornado, but that thing flows like 120cfm but it sounds like a hair dryer next to your head. make sure you use arctic silver 5 thermal grease as well. make sure you follow their directions, i know it's stupid to say, but many people do not.

edit: here's the best deal you'll get on that heatsink. Text

this is the RAM i use:

OCZ EL Platinum 2x512mb 2-2-2-5

on my old athlon xp system(2400+ mobile), this stuff booted into windows at 250 fsb.😀 It wasn't any kind of stable and rebooted when i tried to do something, but it got there where as my corsair xms couldn't.

edit: you need to note that for gaming performance, athlon 64s prefer tighter timigs(lower latency) on the memory.

OCing was big back in the days when you could get a 50% or better OC.
It was sort of a "get something for nothing" idea. Today's CPU's don't get bigtime OC's (for the most part). And on top of that, you need extreme cooling (for the most part).
The added cost of exotic cooling and the smallish OC's, make OCing sort of a "CB radio" type fad.
10-4 Good Buddy 😀
