In the process of getting all our home movies on my computer as video files. The tapes belong to my mom, grandmother, aunts, uncles, etc.

Once I have them all as video files, where can I host them so all members of my family can watch? I dont want these videos public, but I also dont want the person to have to have the link.

Youtube seems like a bad idea because they would all have to have the link to all videos, unless I just shared the whole "playlist"

Maybe uploading in google plus would be a better option? Then you can set which circles get to see the videos? On the downside, google plus works TERRIBLE with chromecast compared to other apps. This would most likey be how most of us will watch.

Any other services im not considering? And are there limits to the services I listed above?

I use Plex Media Server to share all my videos with my family members. I send them out an invite that allows them access to my collection. My collection resides on my computer and not on some server. All they need is the Plex Media Player software and can watch my videos anywhere they have a good internet connection. Best of all, it's all free.

I have plex, and that actually is a really good idea. I worry about it using up too much of MY bandwidth though. I gave my plex password to a friend so he could catch up on breaking bad, and he ended up watching all my movies all the time. Is there a way to limit folders/bandwidth for certain people? I pay for plexpass, but haven't really used any of the features yet.

This is kinda why I wanted it somehow online, with the added bonus of not having to worry about it getting lost if the hard drive crashes.

You could use slingbox to do that.

Also if you know that certain various members own the Roku 3 then you could put your videos on thumb drive and let them play the video from their roku.
