It doesn't matter what kind of porn it is if you're a kid trying to hide it from your parents, or a wife/husband trying to hide it from your husband/wife.

"Honey, what is this 'truecrypt' program you installed? Google said it's for encrypting and hidding files."

"Don't worry sweetie, I'm just securing our our tax returns."

Yeah, that's going to go over real well. :D

I pity the fool who marries a woman that knows enough about computers to notice a new program has been installed AND doesn't understand the need for a male to enjoy porn.

zip them up.

rename porn.zip to bibleverses.pdf

rename back to .zip when it's time to jerk off.

Call the folder "Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", nobody will ever click on that

This made me think about when I was renovating our downstairs bathroom and found a stash of porn mags in a space above some ceiling tiles. I was thinking that twenty years from now someone will be doing some work on their home and come across an external hard drive or some thumb drives loaded with porn.

Give them all jumbled random letters and numbers as filenames, then change all the extensions to a shared, meaningless extension, like .f0m. When you need to access the files again, use a batch renamer to convert all of your .f0m files to .mpg, or whatever the original extention is.

Edit: Are you hoping to stay safe until you find out which porn star is infected?

What i do is hide the pr0n folder in a maze of folders, 5 deep. The chances of being found are very very low. Its all on my external, which is full of rarely used old files. If i give my external to a freind to get movies, i dont worry the pr0n it too deep. When hooked up to my mac ive set my quicksearch pref to NOT look at the external HDD for added security.

Nobody is finding my pr0n. Unless of course they go inside that terrible "recent files/recently closed" option which exists on Mac and PC. Thats a killer.

Don't install Truecrypt on your PC then. It has a portable version that doesn't need installed so you could put that anywhere.

you're all taking the wrong approach. the best method is to put a folder called "porn" on your desktop but fill it with really soft core pics and vid clips. no one will bother to continue looking for the real stuff in the folder called "therealstuff" on your desktop.

Intimidate everyone you live with to stay away from your computer. No one uses my machine but me, everyone knows this.

c: \windows\system32\ and pick a random folder in there, create a hidden folder, then put it in there.

This and rename all extensions to .bor and associate that with VLC player or whatever player you plan to use.

Hiding them in a folder isn't going to do anything.

You could change the file extension from .mkv, .avi, .mpg, .flv, etc.

Make them .dat files or something. Might help a little bit more than just putting them in an OS folder somewhere.

You need to use encryption to really make them inaccessible to others

This actually works best. Make them an unrecognizable file type, then you have to manually choose the player each time it's viewed. For extra safety, change the file type again after viewing in case it shows up in history or something.

It's actually just better to let his SO know he's into gay porn. Some totally straight guys like it. We all understand.

Just rename them something like system00112.cab or something and put them in a folder within the system32 directory.

Then rename them to .avi or whatever when you want to watch them. Rookie...

that's a neat idea.

I'm an adult, I don't really care if anyone finds my porn... the F drive on my desktop is flat out named "Porn" :D

but I do have some homemade videos that are hidden away.

You could also put your files, I mean your friends files, in a password protected .zip file, then rename the extension to *.da_ or whatever. That would at least keep a noob out if they do come across it.
