Where to go for brake/shock/strut/alignment service?

My car pulls to the left when braking. I rotated the tires the other day and the brake pads look fine. Also I've been wondering for awhile about the shocks/struts. Anyway, I'm new to the area and was wondering if it's best to take my chances at a local shop or go to a national chain like Midas.

push down on the area above each of your shocks and let go, if it bounces like a stripper's boobies, then you need shocks changed.

ask around, never used midas before, friend had a spring compressor so i changed my own shocks/struts

"like a stripper's boobies"... I like the analogy.

I avoid the chains. They tend to have a schedule of repairs that they require you to have done whenever bringing something in...

Example: Brake line burst on my 96 S-10. Pulled into a Firestone. They said they had to replace all the brakes, hardware, rebuild the calipers, etc. Dam thing only had 50k miles on it! :|

I called AAA to tow it home and I'd replace the line myself (not like it's terribly difficult), and the guy showed up, went inside and told the manager that his towing company, a large one, would never bring any business to him again if he didn't just fix the @#%$@#$ brake line.

They did it, but I inspected the piss outta that truck as soon as I got home. I wouldn't trust a pissed off mechanic as far as I could throw him.

I wouldn't take it to Midas. I brought it in to get the front rotors turned and they tried selling me an $1100 job. When I said no the guy said they couldn't take my car off the lift for an hour because all their techs were on lunch, even though they were all standing around my car, having just taken the wheels off. When I still wouldn't say yes their guy put the wheels back on and I left. Then I started learning everything on my own.

I would suggest u take your car to the dealer for a oil change. While there try to find one of the mechanics while their outside smoking or just goofin off and ask em' if they do work on the side. Usually the younger guys pick up extra cash picking up spare jobs on the side. The auto repair business is a disgrace. Just by driving your car into these places is like saying " yea im here to get ripped off"

Take it to the dealer.

I have a respected and honest local tire place that does brakes, shock, alignment, and oil changes. I have mine done there, but if I didn't I'd take it to the dealer.

Maybe check out the Sears auto center, those guys seem to be ok in my experience.
