Where to Get Thermal Tape? Or Zalman VF900 Heatsinks?

I recently purchased an eVGA 7900 GT KO SC video card. It was running quite hot, so I decided to buy a Zalman VF900 and that seemed to help a lot (Runs at mid 60C compared with mid 90C!)

Unfortunately I find out that these cards are having all sorts of issues, mine included, and had to RMA it. I got my new card, and seems to be working fine, but it still runs too hot (85C at load).

Since I want to transfer my Zalman VF900 I either need new heatsinks or thermal tape. Preferably new heatsinks because scraping that tape off is a pain in the butt.

I found these:

But it only has four of the eight small ones I need, and if I buy two kits that $20. It would be nice if they had a heatsink kit to replace the VF900 heatsinks for $10. Anyone know of such a thing? Or good or better replacement heatsinks?

Are you talking about the RAM heatsinks? If so, yes I would go jump ahead and buy some new bunch of them ^_^

I think what Powermoloch was getting at was that ram heat sinks do NOTHING for cooling.

edit: i have tried them (not those in your OP) and saw 0 degrees difference under load and idle.

Well the zalman blue ram heatsinks aren't that bad after all. Either from the link you posted or at newegg. But it seems pricey to get new ones though lol (1/3 the cost of the zalman VF900 lol :p)

And what did you use to measure the memory temps? I didn't know that there were temp sensors on the memory chips?

Additionally, that link to those heatsinks are that they include four of the bigger ones and four of the smaller ones (like come with the VF900) so you have to buy two sets to get eight of the smaller ones.

If you want to try to use your old heatsinks... like I did... Just take them off of your old card, and clean off the bottom of the heatsinks with some rubbing alcohol. It gets em fairly sticky again. I've used my Zalman on 3 video cards. :p

Soak the heatsinks in rubbing alcohol (70% works, 91% is better) overnight. Be generous with the alcohol, and be sure to cover it up to prevent evaporation. The gunk on the bottom should pretty much fall right off.

Lighter fluid will make quick work of the adhesive as well- just make sure to clean well afterwards.

As far as replacement thermal tape, there is a member here who sells 3M thermal tape by the inch. Works well enough, but you have to make sure to give it time to adhere. Seach for a post by JMag in the FS/T forum .

Thanks Dawza. I have some 99.953% alcohol that I can use, and will try that. I'm surprised at how difficult double sided sticky thermal tape is to find. I would think that some stores would carry it!
