I'm looking for the rounded slim IDE cables for my DVD drives (hard drives already run on SATA). I checked out newegg and they dont seem to have a good selection of those.

Anything in particular I should be looking for when buying those or will and brand do?

rounded cable is useless, get regular cable much cheaper and makes more economical sense.

The guy says he wants rounded IDE cables. Your response is to essentially tell him he's dumb and give him a big thumbs up? Nice!

What are you talking about useless? There is so much more air flow blockage with the flat IDE cables.

Well it looks like those are the only brands that new egg does not offer. Is there a reason why these are recommended? Any others will do?

Fixed ;)

And don't mind RobCur (aka. Mr Douche); he's not entirely all-there.

That's a cool product, but for $25.50 it's not very practical. It's not compatible with all motherboards, and it's just turning a PATA drive into a SATA drive. Even if he does have enough empty SATA connectors, and even if his motherboard worked with the adapter and allowed him to use bootable CDs, two of those would cost $51, whereas he could just get a single 2-device round ATA cable for less than $10.

Those are stores, not brands.

The price difference between them are MINIMAL at best, and rounded cables are so much better for air flow, ribbon cables do stop a lot of air if left flat.

Don't rounded cables have a TINY bit less throughput/speed... because of the interference from the wires being so close together?

I get rounded at Staples and Best Buy for cheaper than I can find online. The price and the shipping seldom make it economical to buy cables from an online store.

Staples has Antec Cobra rounded cables for a good price.

No, the wires are properly shielded from each other.

like the ones which came with my dfi board ? Ghetto :) Flat cables with some plastic around so it appears "round"...no shielding etc.....

I've been thinking of getting a set of these as well since most of my IDE cables are so twisted they are pretty much round anyway.

no, you actually use a razor blade and cut stripes of 5 wires at a time and then tape them together. i dont know how to shield them but it creates a very thin cable when you are done. please note this solution is both ghetto, and can end up looking quite tacky, but is most certainly hardcore. also please note that if you are not very coordinated you will most certainly damage the IDE cable during the process and probably destroy your hard drive.

I remember back in the day before they sold them rounded.... people would try to round their own cables, and this interference would cause it to be slower... they probably make them differently now. ;)
