where to get region unlocked dvd drive

i am going to paris soon for college but would like to play my dvds from here(us) and the new ones there. Is there a particularly dvd drive that is not locked or can be made unlocked? Thanks
Also for my notebook i have a toshiba sd-c2302 dvd, is that region locked or can it be unlocked in anyway?

you are pretty much out luck
i know dvd drive before 6x have it unlock
after 8x and after is all drive lock
and the software you use is lock too
so you need to find for the software unlock and hardware unlock
while hardware unlock you can only change 25 time, then sent it back to manufactory

software unlock is easy, you need a program called "DVDGenie". it can change region setting as many time as you want.
as for hardware, i think it depends on which firmware you have. if you have one that lock region, then u'll need to download and flash with different firmware version.
there was a great site about this matter. but i cant find that site anymore, coz i lost my bookmarks when i formatted my HD the last time.

that drive can be made region free but you'll have to say what firmware it presently has to get the correct hacked firmware. you'll need to look in device manager cdrom/toshiba sd-c2302/properties/settings.
as for your pc dvd,some such as the pioneer 105s can be made region free while others have no region free firmware available!

it didn't show what firewire version when i go to the settings. it tells me to pick a region. I can change the region 5 times.
