where did you guys get your plextor 40x max drives with v1.11 firmware? every place i try calling has no idea what i'm talking about. i'd rather not take a chance and order any drive if i can know beforehand where to order from.

btw, i want a real plex drive. no hp with firmware hacks please. i dont mind paying a little premium for the real thing

the Plextor 40x has been in the market for a few years now. Anything you get nowaday is more likely to be v1.10. I got mine at Buy.com a year ago and it's v1.10

this may sound basic but why not just get the drive & update the firmware to v1.11 if it's needed!

Vendors have no way of telling which firmware the drives they are selling has, as it is not specifically specified on the box. I got my Plextor UltraPlex40 with the v1.10 firmware 3 months ago. It is really simple to flash your drive to the latest firmware by going to Plextor's website, under Support -> Downloads -> Firmware. I'm currently running the v1.11 firmware on my drive.

for some reason i was under the impression that the drive had an entirely new chip internally and was no compatible for reflashing. ie the old rom would not accept the new firmware revision. am i incorrect? have any of you with relatively old drives updated to 1.11 ?

edit:
ok i see on that page bacillus gave that v1.10 is the new hardware that is incompatible with the old firmware. i should probably get the drive from a vendor that does alot of volume so i can be sure to find something that was recently manufactured.

What is the difference between the 1.04 model and the 1.11 model? What were the changes and which one is better?
