Hello,

Been trying to install Quake 2 in Linux. I'm using Mandrake 8.1.
When I try to run the Q2 patches for Linux, it tells me i need some files;

libglide2x.so
libvga.so.1
libm.so.5
libd1.so.1
libc.so.5

None these files were found on the 3 Mandrake discs.
So i assume there is a place i can download them... ?

Can anyone help me out.
Provide a link to a website??
thanks

I dont understand.
Do i have to download all these files or what??

Under the first one. glide2x.so there are 22 matches, most of them relate to 3dfx cards. Ive got a Geforce 2 ultra.

So should I download the development files for Mandrake and not Mandrake Cooker?? which one i386 586 or what??

None of those files are called libglide2x.so and thats what I was looking for, (thats why i got confused)

I noticed that these files are within the rpms, is there a way to extract just those files? or do they need or that other crap in the rpm to work.

thanx in advance

You probably don't have to download any of them. They are probably on your distribution CDs

Pick the one that most closely matches your distribution. ie. If your running Mandrake, you should probably get a mandrake package with the same version number. As for 486/486/586, etc. I'll let you figure that one out.
About the 3dfx vs. GeForce. Maybe you need to take a closer look at your install process if you think you need the glide frivers

rpm is a package management system. It makes it easy to install, remove & upgrade software packages. You don't want to extract individual files, just install the whole package.

apt-get install library

hmm, what you dont run debian? ohh... well you gotta go search for a binary package or find the source tarball and build it yourself. good luck.

They are most likely on the Mandrake CD's. They're just probably parts of packages. Try looking at the lib files, and check the files from the packages. Does Mandrake have a Package Manager? I'm sure it does, just never used it. :p

Someone give me a hand on what lib files X uses for video. :p
