You can make your drive region free (RPC-1) by using this patched 1004 RPC-1 firmware (patch by XVI).

There is always a danger to the drive, but not much if you follow the instructions carefully.


Just don't ever flash inside Windows.

How do you do so otherwise? I flashed my Plextor 16/10/40A from 1000 to 1004 within Win98. Had no problems.

With a simple win95/98 boot disk.

Flashing inside Windows is just asking for trouble.
