Where to get fan silencing grommets?

Does anyone know where I can buy those rubber grommets that you can put in between a fan and the case to make it less noisy? I seen some online but I thought maybe someone would know where to get some at a local hardware store maybe?

Nexus has one on this page as well. $17 gets ya some fan mounts (both closed and open chassis), soft rubber case feet, & some HD grommets.

Looking at the Vantec package, it says not to use the dampener and the provided screw washers together. Why is that?

I'm not familiar with Vantecs package. I'm guessing that with the washers in addition to the dampener, the rubber screws will not be long enough to hold?? Just a guess. I used the ones like from jab tech and they work great.

The Jab-tech ones look exactly like the ones on my friend's P160. I would recommend them because he told me his do wonders for silencing and minimizing vibration.

I noticed that on the Vantec pack but I went ahead and used the washers anyway. I guess you should try some local experimentation. One of those mechanic's stethoscopes with the contact probe on it would help in judging comparative noise levels as the diff is likely to be slight. First try it without the washers and see what the noise level is and then add the washers and see if there is any difference. I just went on the idea that the more you can isolate from contacting the case, the better for reducing noise transmission.
. I also got some of those Sunbeam rubber fan pins from jab-tech but I noticed that those leave a small gap between the fan and the case that could set up for a whistling noise. I suppose I could run a string of rope caulk around the edge of the fan to take care of that should it occur.

If you're still screwing into the case, the difference won't be enough to justify the cost. SPCR forums have many creative solutions that will work great, and some are even easy to implement .

The Verax and EAR mounts are good, but flimsy (they are for absorbing/isolating, after all...), and don't allow a seal.

Soft mounting your fans is one of the last steps to be taken. You're system has to have an already very low noise floor for method of mounting to make any difference. If your fans run at more then 1200RPM it's probably not worth it.

Having said that the Vantec gaskets are pretty useless, the EAR mounts are the best option.

I beg to differ, high rpm fans that are poorly balanced benifit a good deal from silicon mounts. but I will agree, dollar for dollar it would be best to just get better fans.

and ear mounts are excellent

"High RPM, poorly balanced" fans will be loud regardless.

Start with slow well balanced fans; if it's still too loud then you can soft mount them.
