So I need to get some before my trip saturday (or i'll end up getting some there) but i'm having trouble finding ones I like or that fit me. i'm not a fatty by any means but i just dont like shorts/trunks that are all up above my knees and shit, i like to have some length to my shorts.

I have tried Old Navy, American Eagle, Aeropostale, Express (didnt tihnk they would carry em but I was there last weekend, and they dont), and I checked Pac Sun but they didn't have any in my size that I liked. I actually didnt even try them on at Pac Sun because of that, so I don't even know how the length of them is. I was also in Macys and looked around and found nothing.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Try surfing stores. Ground zero, those type of hip stores.

Otherwise, try the sports stores like big 5, sports authority, sports chalet, sportsmart.

i got my board shorts at Target; when standing they hit right at the middle of my knee so they are the perfect length. They're a little tight, though... don't know if that's because they're board shorts or if I just got a slightly smaller size.

I use basketball shorts, 2 of them in fact. I like to be that "oh-look-he-must-be-from-the-city-and-this-must-be-his-first-time-at-a-beach. HOW CUTE" guy at the beach

quicksilver? they're a surf/boarding clothing brand. you're probably having some trouble at the regular stores right now as it isn't really that season yet. so selection is limited

yea that is what i did last year but i'm trying to get a suit this time hah. basketball shorts just take so long to dry to the point it can be annoying.

I've been wondering too, but I need some extra long ones. Like a 17" inseam. Can't be runnin' around wearin' all these midget clothes that stores carry.

Pac Sun would be my first guess. I have also gotten them at department stores like Macy's before. I'm surprised you couldn't find any in Pac Sun that fit. I was in there less than 2 weeks ago here in St. Louis and they had a wall of board shorts...I imagine they have one for just about anyone's size.

yes i would prefer to get some of length as well, im just picky as hell with shorts. i swear the new style is to have em above your knees now for cargo shorts. it took me like 5 stores to find some cargo shorts that i liked, and it was just when i was looking all over macys and saw this random rack w/some no names that fit the way i like. everything else was like above the knees which i dont like, especially for cargo shorts. some stores even have 'long fit' now but even those just didnt fit right all over. i want my trunks to be basketball short length.

they may have had some in my size but not the style i liked. if i'm going to pay $50 or $60 for some board shorts, i better like them heh.

in general though pac sun did not have many which i found kind of odd. and their cargo shorts are like booty shorts now, i thought for sure i would find some there i liked.

cool blackdogdeek i'll check them out.

question ... do you guys know of any brands of board shorts that have draw strings in them that go all the way around the waste?

one of my problems is that a lot of the ones i tried on, the string to tightening only tightenens like right in the front part, and i can get them as tight as it allows but it is still too loose.

but when i try to get a smaller size, they are too small elsewhere (on my thighs and too short)

You need to get actual board shorts. A lot of the ones they sell at the regular stores take forever to dry or they're made of some crappy material and fall apart. Sometimes they have volcoms at ross/tj maxx/etc. Those are pretty good. I stocked up last summer and use them for my mma class instead of fight shorts. Actually if you can find fight shorts they're usually ok for swimming in also. You can also look at zumiez or quicksilver. You might have one of those at the mall.

snap did not even think of stores like ross and tj maxx. there is a ross right next to sports authority, which is also right near the target i'm going to as well.

so looks like i'll check out ross, sports authority, and target.

the ones i liked at pac sun were $50 and were quicksilver, but yah, they werent my size :(

well i got some at target, got some brand named Merona that were $15. got 2 pairs.

they are the ONLY trunks that I saw that have a draw string that goes AALLL the way around, but they look like board shorts. they aren't true board short material, but i like tem and they are good enough!

i saw some other nicer ones that were actual board shorts at target but the larges were too small around my thighs and very snug around my waste, and the XL were TOO large around the waste and I can't tighten them enough to make em comfortable.
