Are there any places where I can buy the acoustic versions of songs with the lyrics stripped out? This would be great for things like karaoke and stuff. Is there a special term for songs with their lyrics stripped out?

Yes, unless there is an original recording by the artist, you are going to be hard pressed finding an acoustic only version unless it is a Karaoke version. They recreate the songs in the studio (some better than others in my experience.)

Ahhh... Ok. So the instrumental versions of songs are basically recreated by the karaoke studio. The original artists won't usually release an instrumental and non-instrumental version of their own songs, right?

acoustic - non-electronically created music

instrumental - music without vocals

There we go. So I'm looking for the instrumental version. I'm also looking for instrumental versions of lounge songs, basically ones where it is 95% instrumental, with only a few simple verses here and there, but those few kind of ruin the instrumental nature of it IMO.

You got it. Unless you can find a demo or other unofficial recording by the original artist, anything that is instrumental is likely recreated in the studio or via a cover band. I have gotten some "Deluxe Edition" CD's that are 2 discs, first being the original album, and the 2nd being instrumentals / b-sides. I don't think any of them have been any genre other than hip-hop or electronic music.

I wish more bands did it. I have a few like that from Nightwish, Dream Theater and some other bands. HATE the majority of the vocals, LOVE the music. The CD with vocals stays in the case. I like to make compilations of instrumentals from Trivium and other bands. I enjoy the music, but that growling and screaming crap gets old.
