Where to find P4's w/ C1 stepping?

I know this is a broad question, but if finding a special OCer is anything like it used to be, then finding one w/ the correct stepping is rare. I know that ordering online, it is purely chance, and most, if not all places will not take requests for a particular stepping or 5-digit SPEC. So how do i find them, and how difficult will it be? I'm looking for a 1.8A in particular, but pointers to any P4's w/ the C1 stepping will do...especially if the price difference between a CPU and the next step up is minimal.

By the way, why is the C1 stepping able to OC better than the B0 stepping? Do they have a lower multiplier or something?

I don't think you should even bother with a 1.8A. Those are end of the line. If you are interested in overclocking, you would get far more out of a Pentium 4 2.4C processor.

Later steppings are almost always more desirable, not only for incorporating bug fixes and performance enhancements, but also come from a more mature manufacturing process. This leads to better yields and by implication better overclocking results.

Plus the benefit of Hyper Threading.

Ok, i hadn't thought of that, but now that you mention it, the P4 1.8A is kind of old. So suppose i look for a P4 2.4C...does this have the C1 stepping everyone raves about, or if not, is it at least what the C1 stepping was to past CPUs? And again, where do i start looking for something like this, because obviously i'm going to have to seek out CPUs w/ a particular 5-digit SPEC on the box in order to guarantee a certain stepping.

So basically I don't need to be looking for a particular stepping or sSpec? Any 2.4C will do?

Wow, those are excellent OCs. i won't have a mobo whose fsb clocks that high though. i already have an Abit IT7 max2 v.2 based on the i845PE chipset. if i could afford a new mobo, i would get an i865PE since their fsb typically goes higher than 250mHz. maybe in the near future...

That IT7Max2 V2 has some great overclocking potential. But not compared to today's newer 865/875 boards... I would seriously consider any 2.4c with an 865/875 based Abit board.

Maybe one day in the near future when i have the money to get a new mobo. By the way, if and when i make the upgrade, the new mobo is all i need, right? I can use the same DDR memory in an 865/875 board as i'll be using on the IT7 max2, right?
