A friend gave me a pair of NHT studio powered monitors, that I'd like to use with my computer. The monitors have a variety of inputs, including standard 3.5mm plugs (as well as some din-type plugs that you don't see on ordinary home stereo preamps).
Anyway, my problem is this. There is no volume control on the monitors -- they are designed to have the preamp signal varied before it gets to them. In addition, they are each standalone, with a separate mono amp. So, I need a setup that goes from stereo male 3.5mm plug for my sound card (MX300) to an inline volume control, to a "Y" splitter, to two 3.5 mm mono plugs.
Additionally, I really don't want to just have two mono signals, if I could come up with some sort of device which actually separates the left and right channels it would be ideal.
I've tried searching for cables and such for computer speakers on the web, and have browsed endlessly on Radio Shack's site, but haven't been able to find any cable with an inline volume control.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
